Very nervous about Sept placement
So after seeing several different programs for DD, I'm leaning toward sending her to the district instead of a private school. She will most likely be in an 8:1:4 class, have a 1:1, and push into a 12:1:4 for circle time or socialization. Plus, she will have lunch and some specials with typical peers. She really loves other kids, and will really follow along with what they do, so I'm thinking this may be the best option for her. Plus, this leaves the opportunity open to integrating her at any time, if and when appropriate. I'm very nervous about it tho. This is such a hard decision, but it is the first option that has made me feel at ease.

Very nervous about Sept placement
I think that is a great placement. It is the exact placement I had for my DD when she entered K. I was a nervous wreck and was so scared but in hindsight it was perfect for her. Just make sure your communication is open between you and her teacher. I find that makes all the difference, especially in the 8:1:1 class. It's harder on the parents than it is on the kids but I'm sure she'll do great!! Always go with your gut and if it puts you at ease it was definitely the right decision!! : )

Re: Very nervous about Sept placement
I know sending your child to a new school makes my stomach turn. I get so nervous. We brought my son back to district and it was the BEST thing. He was in an 8:1:1, and now next year he was recommended for the 12:1;1.....He is the same way. He likes being around typical peers and learns so much. He now buys lunch on certain days. He goes into a gen ed. kindergarten for social skills during circle time and snack time. When I went on a field trip it was the whole grade. One kid went up to Chris and said....hey guys its Chris, and gave him a high five. It made my day I knew I made the right choice

Re: Very nervous about Sept placement
My daughter is going back to district for 2nd grade after being in her last school since pre-k. Im terrified, so nervous. I know it is probably the best move for her. But in her old school....everyone knew her, looked out for her. Here, no one knows her. I'm not good with change in general, so this....forget it. She was in a 6:1:2, and will go into a 6:1:2 in district.

Re: Very nervous about Sept placement
I'm not sure what district you are in, but being a school psychologist and being in and out of a lot of programs, I tend to love the district programs (provided your child's needs can be met there) over private programs.
Best of luck!
