Very new here..but an old timer, ha!
Hello!
I am very new to this board. Not sure what to expect, etc. Me and the hubs have been TTC the last 3 months..not sure, if were "doing it right", and I feel so silly for even writing that!
I use an app on my phone to tell me when I am ovulating-so we usually "do it" two days before, a day before and the day of ovulation.
I'm not even sure if this is the best way/method.
Can anyone offer any advice on which ovulation predictor kit is the best?
Thanks!

I wouldn't use an app - they are not really accurate and usually go by the model of everyone has a 28 day cycle, which is usually not the case.
Your best bet is by temping with a basal thermometer at the same time every morning OR getting the Clear Blue Easy Ovulation predictor kit. So much easier! Most women will get PG within a few months of using that.

ah, really? i mean, from what i know, which isnt much about TTCing, lol, is that you ovulate 18 days after your period starts. so it is pretty accurate in that aspect, correct? or am i completely wrong? lol
i shall try the clear blue easy ovulation predictor kit-thanks!

It really depends on the woman. Some women ovulate at day 11, some day 14, some day 18....my cycle is usually 28-30 days and I found that I ovulated on day 14 or 15.

You should read Taking Charge of your Fertility if you want more info about this. I typically ovulate 12-14 days after my period starts. Everyone is different and one cycle to the next could be different. That's why I usually use ovulation predictor tests like clear blue easy digitals. Don't bother with an app. There's no way that could be correct except by chance or if you fit the typical mold.

Re: Very new here..but an old timer, ha!
I used the Clear Blue Easy ovulation predictor kit (the one with the smileys, not the lines). It really helped me a lot. I have a longer cycle than most and was ovulating much later than I originally thought I was. After a few months of using it I was able to start to know the signals my body would give me when I was ovulating. It really helped me to "know" my body better.

Re: Very new here..but an old timer, ha!
I used the app for months with zero success, even though I have a very typical 28 day cycle. After the second month using wondfo Ovulation Prediction Kits, we got our BFP. A lot of people find the wondfo strips confusing, but they were cheap and accurate for me. The line gets darkest on ovulation day so I liked being able to see the progression as the line got darker and I got closer to O day. I started testing for ovulation about 10 days after the start of my period. I found I ovulated on day 14. We would 3 days before expected ovulation, ovulation day, and the day after (just in case I misread the test and the line was still getting darker). And 2nd month of this- BFP! Good luck! I hope your stay on this board is short and sweet!
ETA: Also, nailing down your ovulation time can help you if let's say you ovulate late and have a short luteal phase, which might make it harder to conceive but is usually easily remedied by taking B6 vitamins. I didn't read anything but the post pinned at the top of this board and I found it SO helpful, even just getting comfortable with the terms!

Re: Very new here..but an old timer, ha!
So I got the ovulation predictor kit...started to test Friday and got a smiley face Mon am. It was gone by this am. I tested again and got a circle this am. (no LH surge). Could this be possible?
I would think I would get a circle, then a blinking smiley face, then a smiley face that lasted 2 days. Or am I doing this completely wrong?
Thanks!

It's normal. You probably ovulated either Tuesday or Wednesday am. I never really got a blinking smiley. I would go from circle to smiley. I actually hated those advanced tests. I preferred the ones without the blinking smiley.

If you got a smiley face on Monday, assume you ovulated on Tuesday. Once you get a smiley you stop testing.

This is normal. If you didn't test Sunday PM, its likely you would have gotten your blinking smiley then. That's why I test twice a day. Your surge only lasts about 12 hours, so it's normal for the smiley to be gone by the next morning. If you got it on Monday morning, you probably ovulated on Tuesday.

Ahh okay! I didnt test Sunday PM, only AM. I've only been testing in the AM. I did the deed on Mon night, lol.

That's perfect timing! I got my smiley on a Sunday morning and DTD that same night. I O'd on Monday evening (I get O pains so I was able to pinpoint it). I also DTD the day after I O'd (Tuesday night). And I got my BFP that month. So, I would DTD today too for good measure. But it sounds like you timed it perfectly!

Re: Very new here..but an old timer, ha!
are we talking about the OPK's with the curcle, blinking smiley and solid smiley that stays there for 2 days? or the other ones with only two options? bc now I am confused hahaha
last month i ONLY used the CBE with the purple cap (the three options) this month I am using those along with the wondfo strips( only using both to get the hang on wondfo) but last month i got a blinking smiley for like 5 days before i got the solid one. according to that and my BBT I OV on CD18.
but you can get a blinking one and then a regular circle afterwards?

Right. It really depends on the woman's cycle. Usually, I am at a 28-30 day cycle, but in the past few months, my cycle has gone all over the place. One month CD 25, the next was late as 32 days, the following was CD 26.. So, it's really hard for me to figure out lately when I am ovulating. My OB said for me to start on day 10 of my cycle and have sex every other day, once... but not more than once (why, I am not sure)? until my cycle day 20. However, I really had great success with the Fertility App with my first, but that was 4 years ago and my cycles were pretty consistent back then... so I think I will start on day 10 and do it consecutively for three days then, every other day up to my CD 20. I think I should have all my bases covered then! Good luck ladies!
