very sad and depressed

I know this might not sound like a big deal to everyone with all the bigger problems going on...but i just need to see if anyone has advice or anything...
My hair has really started thinning out over the past year or so to the point where i cant even part it certain ways because it looks terrible..my part is getting wider.. Has anyone ever had this happen to them and what have you done to resolve it?
I dont know if i trust using rogaine or anything else..what if it makes it worse? And do you have to take it forever?

I am just depressed over it..i'm only 30.. I feel like if this is happening now, what will it look like when i'm 60?

any info would help me, thank youChat Icon

Re: very sad and depressed

I think it's big deal

I don't know what you can do to fix it- I would try rogaine

and I would even consider extensions- I am vain about my hair- all women are I think

I remember when my Mom starting losing hers b/c of Chemo- it was very tramatic

Re: very sad and depressed

Where are you located? I lost a LOT of hair after my pregnancy which was hormonal, but I went to the doctor for it and he recommended a dermotologist who specializes in hairloss. I can dig up the information for you if you'd like.

Have you spoken to your doctor about it? Maybe it's dietary? Or stress related?Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I think it is a very big deal! First I would go speak with my DR. and then my regular hair dresser and see what options she reccomends.

Also I have heard that rogain for women has done wonders for many women! Chat Icon

I think it's a big deal. I know a woman who had thinning hair and she first tried using special hair/nail vitamins.
Have you seen your doctor about it to be sure that you don't have an underlying problem causing the hair loss?

Re: very sad and depressed

First off I want to say I am sorry you are going through this and I can relate. Ive been under TONS of stress and am going through the same exact thing... but only on the right side of my head. It's sooo thin and my hair has basically broke off about 2 inches from the root. You should try taking hair vitamins. I wouldn't suggest taking Rogaine without first talking to your doctor. Products like that might work, but as soon as you stop using them it will go back to how it used to be. Unless you want to stay on Rogaine forever, I would speak to your doctor and see what they recommend first. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: very sad and depressed

Talk to your doctor or even your hairdresser about this. My friend had the same problem and her hairdresser recommended something (I'll ask her when she comes back from vaca) and it worked great. I think rogaine would be a last resort, but your doctor would know better.
And yes, it's a big deal and right now apparently there are much less important things going on here right nowChat Icon

It was probably Nioxin that she recommended. My hair girl told me to use that. It's for cancer patients and is supposed to help with thinning hair. Ive been using it for a couple of months, but I don't really like it that much. You can also try Mane and Tail which is a shampoo and conditioner also used on horses (weird, I know).. My nephew had a gf that had dreadlocks and couldnt get them out so she had to shave her head. She started using Mane and Tail and her hair is now passed her butt! I"m at the point where I will try anything right now!

Re: very sad and depressed

thank you all for your Chat Icon s and replys...

I just did some research on rogaine and basically you'd have to take it forever..cuz if it works after a few months and you stop taking it, then the hair that grew back will fall out again...
My hair doesnt have a problem growing, its actually pretty healthy and thick..but its my scalp i guess... I used to get some pretty bad burns on my head when i was younger...guess that did some damage Chat Icon

I am hoping to get pg soon and i dont want to take anything that would interfere with that...

I havent seen my dermatologist yet, but i should make an appointment... And i recently had bloodwork done for something else including my thyroid and it came back fine, so i know its not that...

I'm just so depressed over it and embarressed Chat Icon

Re: very sad and depressed

It is a very big deal and it truly affects a person, I can totally relate. Over the past few years my hair has thinned considerably, it depresses me very much. My hair loss is due to medication, which I may be on for life really. I also can't wear it certain ways because you can see my scalp. I've been to dermatologists and asked hair dressers. They recommended Nioxin which has been mentioned. I had a bad reaction to this, it made my scalp burn and itch. I recently started taking hair, nail, skin vitamins, which I heard work great for some. Too soon to tell if they are working for me, but I'll let you know. Biotin is another vitamin that is supposed to be good. I would recommend seeing a dermatologist, but I'd stay away from extensions because they could possibly damage the healthy hair you have. Also I agree that Rogaine should be the last alternative. Good luck and feel free to FM me if you ever want to vent about it, you're not alone.

This is a huge deal! I would be very upset too.

I would see a doctor about your hair loss before trying to get pregnant. Hair loss is often a sign of your body being in distress - either your own level of stress, vitamin deficiency, etc. Also after you are pregnant, you lost a TON of hair - I mean A TON. If it were me, I would take care of the problem now. The solution could be something easy like taking vitamins (biotin)

Re: very sad and depressed

My mom uses the women's rogain and it has really helped her. Her hair got thin when she was pregnant with me. She just started using it and it really has helped her.

Good luck! Chat Icon
