Very strange...unexplained fatigue and muscle pain
I have never felt like this before in my entire life. I usually get a little sleepier this time of year, but this is rediculous!!! I have been waking up after a full night of sleep just feeling ok, not rejuvinated. I'm ok for a couple of hours and then it's like any ouce of energy I have is sucked out of me completely to the point that I am too tired to think or eat. My parents have noticed a change as well. It's just been the past couple of weeks. It just washes over me suddenly. I also have some body aches. DH thinks it's a vitamin deficiency. I obviously want to have it checked out w/ my doctor once my insurance kicks in. Does this sound like normal seasonal fatigue or even a vitamin deficiency? I have no fever, no other symptoms. Just so tired that I want to cry.

it def sounds like it could be a potassium deficiency. Go to your Dr, tell them, and have them run your labs to see if/where the deficiency is. Its quick and will take the guessing out of it.

Re: Very strange...unexplained fatigue and muscle pain
I usually get the same thing every winter, and have been tested for anemia, vitamin deficiencies, etc., and am completely fine.
Since it's only been the past couple weeks for you, which is when the holidays have been in full force, I would guess it may be a combination of stress maybe mixed with seasonal affective disorder, and possibly fighting off a cold or the flu. It seems like everyone is sick, and even when I am not really sick I feel run-down like I am fighting something.
No solutions, but I can relate. I woke up and showered this morning, and then lay down for a nap. I fall asleep at my desk at work, in meetings, etc. It has been very grey out the past couple of weeks, which would also affect you if you have seasonal affective disorder.
I noticed on the other thread you said every NYE you've been sick. It seems like you get really run-down this time of year.

Thanks ladies
I was starting to think I was nuts. I will definitely look into it. It may just be the holidays/season.
I think I would like to try a multivitamin to be on the safe side. I just need to find one that is chewable or in liquid form since I gag on the smallest of pills.

I have the same problem and started taking Flintstones chewable gummy vitamins. You take 2 instead of the kid dose. I figure it can't hurt!

Re: Very strange...unexplained fatigue and muscle pain
Just an FYI- the gummy kids vitmains do no contain Iron, so if it is Anemia, they will not help you at all.
They dont put iron in them becuase they resemble candy too much and itsreally easy for little kids to OD on iron.
ETA- Try the Viactiv chewable mutlivits. THey contain adult doses and the chocolate ones are fairly decent.

How old is your mattress and boxspring? My friend had a similar problem, changed her boxspring and she was back to her normal self. Apparently all she was doing at night was tossing and turning and not really getting a quality sleep.

I would go to the doctor and get things checked out. Have you ever had your thyroid tested?

Re: Very strange...unexplained fatigue and muscle pain
Could I be fibromyalgia?
Seasonality would actually make sense beccause for me now that I have mine under contorl I only get symptoms when I let myself get too stressed and run down...in fact the past few weeks have been the first time I've had symptoms for more than a day or two all year.
From Mayo Clinic: You hurt all over, and you frequently feel exhausted. Even after numerous tests, your doctor can't find anything specifically wrong with you. If this sounds familiar, you may have fibromyalgia.
Fibromyalgia is a chronic condition characterized by widespread pain in your muscles, ligaments and tendons, as well as fatigue and multiple tender points — places on your body where slight pressure causes pain. Fibromyalgia is more common in women than in men. Previously, fibromyalgia was known by other names such as fibrositis, chronic muscle pain syndrome, psychogenic rheumatism and tension myalgias.
Although the intensity of your symptoms may vary, they'll probably never disappear completely. It may be reassuring to know, however, that fibromyalgia isn't progressive or life-threatening. Treatments and self-care steps can improve fibromyalgia symptoms and your general health.
Signs and symptoms Signs and symptoms of fibromyalgia can vary, depending on the weather, stress, physical activity or even the time of day. Common signs and symptoms include:
Widespread pain. Fibromyalgia is characterized by pain in specific areas of your body when pressure is applied, including the back of your head, upper back and neck, upper chest, elbows, hips and knees. The pain generally persists for months at a time and is often accompanied by stiffness. Fatigue and sleep disturbances. People with fibromyalgia often wake up tired and unrefreshed even though they seem to get plenty of sleep. Some studies suggest that this sleep problem is the result of a sleep disorder called alpha wave interrupted sleep pattern, a condition in which deep sleep is frequently interrupted by bursts of brain activity similar to wakefulness. So people with fibromyalgia miss the deep restorative stage of sleep. Nighttime muscle spasms in your legs and restless legs syndrome also may be associated with fibromyalgia. Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). The constipation, diarrhea, abdominal pain and bloating associated with IBS are common in people with fibromyalgia. Headaches and facial pain. Many people who have fibromyalgia also have headaches and facial pain that may be related to tenderness or stiffness in their neck and shoulders. Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) dysfunction, which affects the jaw joints and surrounding muscles, also is common in people with fibromyalgia. Heightened sensitivity. It's common for people with fibromyalgia to report being sensitive to odors, noises, bright lights and touch. Other common signs and symptoms include:
Depression Numbness or tingling sensations in the hands and feet (paresthesia) Difficulty concentrating Mood changes Chest pain Dry eyes, skin and mouth Painful menstrual periods Dizziness Anxiety

OMG...that describes me almost to a "T". Speicifically w/ the muscle pain, fatigue, IBS, headaches, dizziness, and hypersensitivity. I will definitely bring this up to a doctor. Thanks for the info ladies!

If that is what it is, ask your doctor for Lyrica. I use it for my trigeminal neuralgia and it helps a lot. Other medications to research are Neurontin or it's generic Gabapentin.

Re: Very strange...unexplained fatigue and muscle pain
I would ask your Dr. to test for the tick diseases. My sister felt the same way and is on thyroid meds for years, so she thought that it needed to be changed but it turns out that she has had Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever for the last 3 months.
She is now on antibiotics for the next four months.

I would also ask to be checked for Anemia.
Many symptoms are ignored b/c we shrug it off as just being tired...

Definitely bring it up. A lot of doctors don't know much about it, so you will need the right doctor, but honestly getting the proper diagnosis was the BEST thing for me because I could research the condition and learn coping strategies. For me I need to minimize stress and get plenty of sleep and that helps soooooo much. Good Luck!

Could I be fibromyalgia?
I think this is a worst case senario.....Start with some blood work...thyroid problems have all these same symptoms too, and have them run a mono test. It could just be that you've ran yourself ragged over the holidays, and with all of the funky weather that could play a role in it as well. I have found the best vitamin is a Prenatal vitamin. PLEASE fm if you want...I'm fming you now
Are you pg??? If so then that's more then likely the issue

I get that way all the time too. Once i started taking vitamins then it stopped. BUt i stopped taking the vitamins and am having the same problem all over again. I never went to the doctor for it. Just havent had the time, but i know i dont eat enough protein and iron. I am very picky when it comes to food so there is not much that i eat. I get bad pains in my calf muscles, tired, sometimes dizzy, and i work out like a feind which prob is not good. Good luck, hope u feel better soon

I don't think it's necessarily a worst case scenario. Honestly it's a lot better than some of the alternatives like Lupus and Lyme disease

Re: Very strange...unexplained fatigue and muscle pain
From what I read on fibromyalgia (sp?) it seems just as benign as chronic fatigue syndrome. Am I incorrect in this?
Since MetLife is the worst health insurance broker EVER, I still don't have my benefits set up. However, in the meantime, I am going to try a multivitamin and try getting some more exercise in to my routine. I am also planning to take an extended weekend next week for some planned "me-time".
For those who know about fibromyalgia, please let me know if the above assumption is correct. From what I have read, it's non-progressive and non-life-threatening.

It is not life-threatening. It's not progressive either. It can get worse, but it can still be managed and you can live a pretty normal life with it. I think getting sleep, avoiding stress and taking vitmains is the way to go. I would be careful with exercise. People with fibrimyaliga often get exercise fatigue after workouts or exertion, so just be mindful of your symptoms and take it slow.
It really sounds like what you are describing is fibromyalgia, but you should definitely see a doctor of course!
