Very stupid TTC question....
I am so confused and pretty much very into Science. If you ovulate every month and get AF on a reg basis- why would anyone have problems conceiving? Doesn't the egg you release every month go down the fallopian tube... HELP! Sorry to sound so stupid, can someone clarify this? TIA!

Re: Very stupid TTC question....
There are many many reasons why you may have trouble concieving...your eggs or his sperm may not be viable, not to mention you really only have a 20% chance of getting pg each month because the sperm can live up to 5 days at the longest and the egg only lives for 12-24 hours before it starts to deteriorate. I know I am not doing the best job at explaining it but you can look up some information online that will help clarify and I hope I got all my info correct.

Re: Very stupid TTC question....
My doctor told us there was a 10% chance with each cycle. I am sure it changes as a woman ages.

I am assuming everything needs to be at the right place at the right time - and that is if everything is working properly - I'm assuimng that you can still ovulate and get AF every 28 days and still have trouble getting PG....

Re: Very stupid TTC question....
I have been told the number is closer to 25%. Could be you have poor ovarian or sperm quality. Poor endometrial lining, recurrent miscarriage(you can get pregnant but not carry a baby to term because of various issues like clotting disorders and immunilogical problems) insulin factors like PCOS. Let me tell you once you deal with infertility it is amazing how anyone gets and stays pregnant!

Re: Very stupid TTC question....
There are so many factors that can affect it as everyone else has said. That's why when we were TTC both babies I charted, used ovulation kits and had sex AT LEAST once a day for 4-5 days right around when I was ovulating and didn't stop doing the deed until I knew I had ovulated. I can say that we were BLESSED, GRATEFUL and LUCKY to have gotten PG on the first month trying both times. Though I can say that we didn't know I had severe Endometriosis for the first PG but did know for the second so I never expected to get PG right away. I was expecting a year. I thought for sure we were going to be facing Infertility since they said I couldn't get PG. But, I had surgery and then we tried and got PG right away! We wanted to do all that we could do to time it perfectly and then if that didn't work, we were then going to go to the next step. A fertility specialist. You would think too that if you time it just right you'd have to get PG, but it's not always the case. Good luck!

Re: Very stupid TTC question....
Oh lord , a million reasons exist....If you ovulate....the mans sperm could have a variety of different things wrong with it..
Your cervical fluid could not be at its best, hence the sperm cant GET to the egg , die before getting there.
You could have cervical scarring that makes it difficult for the Sperm to get into the uterus to get to the egg
You could have immature eggs, which wont fertilize
you could have bad quality eggs which fertilze but then die shortly afterwards
You could have uterus issues such as fibroids, scaring etc which do not allow for implantation
You could have immune issue which makes your body reject the fertilized egg
and on and on.....
So thats why the precentage is so low per month....

Re: Very stupid TTC question....
i hear you loud and clear princess. It's hard to face the fact that it is not easy for every woman. I mean it's our right to be able to have children as females. What the F did we have to deal with bloating, cramps, pms, etc. for almost our ENTIRE LIVES?
But for me, I have to just keep on saying that "it'll happen when it's supposed to" because once you have that baby it's a LIFE TIME DEAL. Right now it's all about you and be selfish. That's how I'm gonna try and deal with it.
