Re: Very swollen feet and legs
Drink a lot of water and stay away from salty foods. That always seems to help me. Also, keep those legs elevated when you can!

Re: Very swollen feet and legs
Dr. told me that nothing will help She said putting your feet up is only a temporary fix and they will swell again as soon as I stand and she said salt wont really make a difference either. She also said it is usually worse the first week after the baby is born, but then you just pee out all the water (sorry if TMI)

Re: Very swollen feet and legs
I have the same problem, basically as the dr said try to stay off your feet as much as possible. But that only works so much. When i wake up in the morning they're usually bareable, but by the time i walk into work about an hour later they are soooo swollen, i put them up under my desk at work and sit on the lazy boy when i get home, but it's the same story every day. I do find though that the days that i drink about 10-12 bottles of poland spring they are less swollen, but i'm also running to the bathroom about every 10 minutes

Re: Very swollen feet and legs
I had that too, drink more water and keep your feet up (can you put a chair behind your desk?)
I wore flip flops from January until DS was born at the end of April.
Did you have preeclampsia with RJ? That's how mine started...

Re: Very swollen feet and legs
You can also try compression stockings. They work pretty well, although i despise them and don't wear them nearly enough. But they do make my legs feel better.

Re: Very swollen feet and legs
I had a lot of swelling towards the end of my pregnancy and to be honest......no amount of water or feet elevation helped. Having the baby was the only way I was able to make the swelling go away. Make sure to find some comfy flip-flops........they might be the only thing you will be able to get your feet into at some point!! Feel better!!

Re: Very swollen feet and legs
I was very swollen with my first pregnancy. It started from week 14 and lasted throughout the pregnancy. What really worked besides elevating and drinking water was compression socks. I wore those every day. I got that at Target and I bought a few pairs.
Be prepared for your feet to look like Fred Flinstone feet after birth. My feet we so swollen after birth that I could hardly bend my toes. It went away after a week.
Thankfully I have avoided swollen ankles and feet this pregnancy and I am due in 19 days.

I had the same thing after my c-section with my first...
My feet look just as scary now, but they feel strange too...
I think Im going to check out the compression socks...worth a shot...

Re: Very swollen feet and legs
My only concern here is that they go back to my ORIGINAL size after.. or I will want to kill myself.. I have too much money invested in my shoes not to be able to ever wear them again.. I posted this last week on fashion and beauty..

Re: Very swollen feet and legs
I have the same problem and no amount of water helped. I tried to elevate my feet as much as I could but they would swell again as soon as I was walking around for a little while. Hopefully they will go back down after the baby is born.
DH refers to them as "memory foam feet", he can touch or squeeze and the imprint stays there!

No Preeclampsia or PIH are a hormonal thing not a BP thing (yes it raises your BP but it is from hormones NOT high bp). I ended up with it when I went into labor and I had been about 100/60 with DD and when I went into labor I spiked 150/100 or higher. Since it is hormonal it usually resolves after delivery or a week or two later. But I don't know how common it is to get it the second pregnancy unless you are having a child with a different father. I know I was told most likely it wouldn't return for me as long as my other children are with the same person.
Definitely mention the swelling and watch it b.c it could be an early sign. Also salt does increase your swelling b.c it causes your body to retain water so maybe cut back a little.

Re: Very swollen feet and legs
My SIL had that problem and she was due in July. I felt so bad for her because she was in pain. She didn't have high blood pressure either. The only thing that helped relieve some of the discomfort was soaking her feet in ice baths (her feet were hot to the touch so this felt good to her), her DH used to rub massage her feet the nights he was home from work and she used to get weekly pedicures where they would massage the whole leg. Once she had my nephew it took maybe a week for the swelling to go down.
