I'm not an expert at all, but I know some DSLR cameras have HD video recording capabilities, so if you wanted to kill two birds with one stone, that might be kinda cool!

I bought my DH a Canon HF M30 for Christmas.
It is a HD camcorder with a 15x zoom.
I used CNET.com for research, and bout it from Crutchfield.com where I was able to get the best deal.

There's a lot of buzz about those FLIP video cameras but I dont know the first thing about them.
