Violins?
Does anyone buy a cheaper violin for beginner lessons? DD will be starting lessons at school. She won't be in a band, just receiving lessons. I see violins for purchase less than the one year rental price. Aside from the savings, I'm not sure I want to be on the hook for the cost of the rental if DD doesn't take care of it or loses it.

I bought her first on Amazon, when she grew out of it, I bought the next size up on Amazon also. Like $70 and it's pretty nice! Her music teacher did comment last year that she should get a higher quality instrument, but I said yeah, when she is "full size" (she is 3/4 still). She was telling me to go to the LI Violin Shop ($$$$$$$$) This isn't the Philharmonic, it's elementary Orchestra, is what I was thinking. Plus, she got a great score at NYSSMA with it!!

Re: Violins?
Have you looked into the rental place? My DS just started and we can return with no penalty at any time. His teacher told us that you get what you pay for and I was afraid to waste money on something I wasn’t sure about.

Re: Violins?
I just rent it. DD has been doing it since first grade and now in 4th and the violin gets bigger as they get older...they don’t hit full size until 7th or 8th grade. If she’s still doing it at that point I will consider buying it.

Nice. I think that's what I'm going to do. I think I'm going to get a pink Mendini for about $70. I read reviews/ listened to someone play and review on YouTube a couple different models by the same manufacturer. Do you recall the brand you bought?

ADM I think is the brand. It came with 2 bows, rosin, a shoulder rest, and a nice case. I think it sounds great, too! I would caution you about getting a pink violin though, because I think they like them to look uniform at the orchestra concerts (at least I know ours did).

Re: Violins?
We bought a cheap one for like $100 off Amazon. Once DD outgrew it we bought a better quality $700 from a music store. Both were good investments since we are on year 5 of playing
