My DH's friend got a comprehensive list of names and salaries for a SD here on the island...
I guess this happens all over...

Yikes!
I know it's public information and all, but I just kind of bugged me that it was published like that - without any explanation - apparently one of the IA's in my building was attacked by other IA's because she makes a bit more than them.
Oy vey!

I think it is wrong to use the names in it...
But I think it is being done to show how certain people in SD are very much overpaid...
I think it just might work for swaying a lot of votes...
And i think we are going to see this tactic used more often

Re: VirginiaDeb
This really upsets me because teachers are building the future of our country, it's not like we are doing a pointless, useless job. Without us, there would basically be no other professions. Everyone had to learn SOMEHOW, and how taught them? TEACHERS. So for anyone to complain that we are overpaid obviously needs a reality check. We are sorely UNDERPAID if you ask me.

Oh, no, I'm sure it wasn't. Sorry, I just had to go off on a little tirade there, though

I agree that some are overpaid... but that's definitly not the case where I currently work... according to the salary scale, teachers that have been teaching for 30 years barely make $20,000 more than a first year teacher. It's rediculous, I don't know what they were trying to prove.
I guess I shouldn't really stress about it anymore though since as of June 30th I'm no longer working for the district.

Re: VirginiaDeb
Oh i totally hear you
this is a tactic that is being used so that when home owners see teachers and other people in the SD being paid over 100K....underpaid isn't the word that comes to mind... And that is the message they are trying to get across....To get people to vote down budgets...
Which is sad...because if the budget gets voted down...it isn't he people making the 100K that lose their jobs....they end up staying...
it is the people who are starting off that get knocked out

It's so sad, but it's true. And in the end, the only ones who really suffer are the kids.

Re: VirginiaDeb
Honestly, it will follow you, Deb. Everywhere there will be a group of people who will be trying to "expose" how horrible it is that us teachers are overpaid This subject makes me SO mad. SOOOOO mad. I understand that there are people in the education system who ARE overpaid and not for doing more work than anyone else, but that is so the minority. The rest of us are working hard, and these kids will grow up to be the doctors, the construction workers, the nursing home aides, etc., that our country needs to survive and thrive. Why in HELL should we not be compensated for helping create capable, able-minded people who will be the ones supporting us someday?
Ok, ok. I'm sorry. I will step off the soap box.

Oh, I know I will be followed - but the difference is I'm in a small community in rural VA - everyone is related to everyone else, and everyone knows everybody else's business.
I'll be able to blend a bit more in fairfax next year.

Blend? You? You're a teacher, you'll have that EXTRAVAGANT lifestyle on that huge salary of yours! Everyone will watch you walking down the street in your fancy clothes, flashing your cash and they'll KNOW, Deb. They'll always KNOW!

hmm, yeah, maybe i should rephrase that, the kids suffer the most, not the only ones.
I know I have a friend who feels awful that she can't fully attend to the needs of her 28 4th graders, but really, how can she? There's 28 of them!

More like I'll stand out being the only person in Fairfax living on less than $150,000 a year.
My '98 Corolla will stand out among the BMW's and Lexus'
Damn ritzy area.
