Visiting the North Fork in October - PSA

I just wanted to say good luck to anyone visiting the farm stands, wineries, etc. on the North Fork over the next couple of weekends. Traffic is INSANE!! I just got back from picking up my kids in Mattituck and the traffic was crawling for miles heading west. Earlier when I dropped them off it was crawling heading east. Not many roads in and out of the North Fork. Just a PSAChat Icon

Oh yea... traffic def does pick up last weeks in Sept into mid Nov.

It is such a fun place to be in the fall. The apple picking, Corn, Pumpkins...The halloween and thansgiving knick knacks...
Not to mention all the winery festivals..

We go anyway...going back next weekend Chat Icon

Re: Visiting the North Fork in October - PSA

I live out here but I have to say that the traffic in the fall is much worse than summer traffic. It used to be the other way around when I was growing up. Oh how things change.

When the DH and i started going it was about 6 years ago..

We were able to get the majority of the wine tasting for free

Before people started building up the tasting rooms

Rapheal was still being built !

I would say over the past 4 years though we have seen such awakening there...Couldn't believe it actually..

But i can see why Chat Icon

I dont know, i dont think they will ever widen the roads. Southold town wants to keep its "country charm" and not turn into Riverhead.

I brought my kids out to my moms today (Riverhead to Mattituck) at 11:30 and the main road was slow but ok but Sound Avenue was crawling to stopped for miles. There were festivals going on but it was packed.

Do you think it will be less busy on a Sunday? We are not driving, so I guess it shouldn't really bother us. We rented a limo.

We're headed out there next weekend for the holiday w/e and our anniversary. We were debating whether to go Sunday or Monday and now I'm sure we should go Monday! Thanks!
