Vitamin D deficiency and anemia?

So my Dr.'s office called today and said that I need to start taking 4,000 units of Vitamin D a day and that my blood count was low 8.9.


I should be at 11 or 12 when I give birth especially since I sm having a c-section.


She said if I drop to a 7 I may need a blood transfusion??

Isn't that extreme? Sounds like they are overreacting.

How bad is 8.9? Does anyone know?

Is that your hemoglobin #? I have beta thalessemia, so I also had low numbers as well. I dropped down to a 7.9 at one point, but was back up to 8.6 when I gave birth. I had a c-section and did not need a transfusion.

My sister's numbers were in the low 7's, so she needed a transfusion before each c-section. According to her, the transfusion wasn't terrible, just boring! But she said that each time she felt SO much better after- had much more energy.

I too have thalasimma too!! Thanks for the info!!! I found out my dd had it too. Does you DC have the trait too?
