Vitamine question for Breastfeeding
I am just wondering if after I have my babies and I'm breastfeeding, do I still need to take the actual prenatal vitamin or can I just take a woman's multi-vitamin? I've been taking a prescription prenatal for over 3 years (it took us along time ttc) and do not like it at all (chewable). I'd love to just buy an OTC version and be done with it.

I'd imagine that you can take the OTC ones, since it isn't as imperative anymore that you get the extra folic acid that the Rx prenatals give. I took OTC prenatal vitamins while BFing. Ask your doc though to be sure. I didn't even think to question it. I should have.

I took an OTC prenatal through both my pgs and bf'ing. CVS prenatals. I had zero side effects from them and they were ok'd by my doc :) and best of all they were super cheap compared to what i would have had to pay for prescrip ones.

I still take my OTC prenatals. I never bought the prescription one.

I finished out my prenatals and then switched to a Rite Aid brand. They have a vitamin for lactating women. I used that while I BF.

My OB/Gyn and Ped both recommended I continue my prenatals while breastfeeding - not sure you have to take the script ones but you should take some prenatals - esp if you plan on having more kids it doesn't hurt to have the extra folic acid.

My dr told me to continue my prescription prenatals-they aren't chewable though-maybe you could switch the kind you take?
