Vivant Solar
Is anyone familiar with them and their no money (lease) needed solar panels? I dont want to get into something that we really dont like and then have to pay the fee to get them removed.

We were looking into something like this, but I don't like that you have to buy the panels after 20 yrs at a predetermined price. I'm kind of leery of that I may overpay in the end...

We leased our panels. 20 years, fixed monthly price, no fee at the end or anything like that, after 20 years the manufacturer can take them off and repair the roof. We went through EmPower, DH works there, and they did a great job with the installation.

With this company, after 20 years you can go by a year to year basis or you can buy them or get them taken off for free.

The amount of the bill will up as it starts at .$15 a kilowatt and then goes up 2.9% per yeay.

With some of these companies, basically it is like they become your electric company, so they get the benefits. And they increase your rate 2.9% each year. Basically they are you using your roof and you reap the benefit on saving the electric cost. It's all very confusing to me which is why I am leery of it.

I don't think I would be comfortable signing on to a long-term without knowing exactly how much I would be expected to pay.
I have to say, DH was so excited to put panels on the roof when we bought our house, I was a little leary, but I'm a total convert now since we're saving so much each month.
I would just suggest checking out some other companies if you think you are interested in solar - from talking to DH it seems like each company, and sometimes panel manufacturers, have their own lease programs. We paid no money to have them installed and our lease payment is about 1/3 of what our LIPA bill was previously.

I have many friends who have all bought their solar panels, not leased them. They said it made more sense to them to buy the panels and it paid for itself within 7-10 years.

We crunched the numbers both ways.
Leasing just didn't make sense to us.
We bought our solar panels and qualified for the Fed/STate rebates... made a lot of sense and we have already saved thousands!!
I greeted the PSE&G meter reader in my driveway and said they should be thanking us
In April we generated a lot more than we used $$$

We are doing this right now. My husband definitely feels buying is the way to go, but I'm on the fence, because I don't necessarily see being in my house in 10 years. Hopefully, we will reach a consensus soon.

From the research Ive done leasing is not a way to go....
Many people who lease said that they still had a PSEG bill AND now a lease fee- which certain months was the same cost or more than the initial PSEG bill...
Lease term is usually like 20 years and if you decide to sell your house BEFORE then you have to find a buyer willing to buy you out or take over the lease...
We plan to sell within the next 5 years- so IMO it wasn't worth the risk...
Seems like the best way is to make the investment and just buy them... but its $$$$$
ETA- Vivant had horrible reviews as well!
