Volunteering- Special Olympics
I think I'm going to volunteer to help at the Special Olympics in Queens this Saturday 6/6. Has anyone ever volunteered at an event like this? I've done some volunteer work (God's Love We Deliver) but I've never done an event like this. I don't have anyone to go with me so I'd be doing it alone.

Re: Volunteering- Special Olympics
I volunteered at a small scale one when I was a senior in HS. It was SO much fun!
I worked at a booth where I handed out balloons and little freebies to the competitors. I had a chance to watch most of the events too and it was GREAT! It was a really fun and easy thing - we jut had to wear special tee shirts that were provided and then just be able to do whatever they needed help with!

Re: Volunteering- Special Olympics
I volunteered at the Special Olympics once and it was one of the best days I've had. It was so much fun! It's a little heartbreaking to see some of the people who are so dependant upon others, but some of the people had such amazing attitudes and their determination just blew me away. I wish I could do it with you!

Re: Volunteering- Special Olympics
I did it in HS and ALWAYS had a blast. I loved it more then they did. I had one guy Peter pick me because he "liked blondes and crotchless underwear". He was mt favorite. One older man always wanted to lay on the lawn and smoke. He was only allowed 4 cigs a day after his four, he said he would "give me kisses" for a cig. He was cool too. Have fun.
