W T F is wrong with the NYPD? VENT

DH worked nights last year before I found out I was pregnant. He recieved night differential in his paychecks. LAST YEAR when I got pregnant he switched to days therefore his night differential in his pay was supposed to stop. DH said he told them 100 times but they never changed it. DH just got notified that they are finally going to stop giving him the night differential (after a year mind you of not working nights) but he owes the city over $3,000 and $180 will be coming out of each of his paychecks.

I know DH can be laxadasicle (sp?) with things but he said he told the payroll lady and she said he is just a piece of paper at the bottom of a pile and they would eventually get around to it but now I am ****** at DH for not complaining more or even higher up. But he says you can't do that at his job, it doesn't work like that.

This is just so frustrating. It was tough enough before and this only makes it worse W T F is wrong with them that they couldnt have just stopped paying him he night diff. They are sooo stupid.

so frustrating. my dh works for the LIRR and they have payroll issues galore. and hardly a week goes by where his pay is correct, so I feel your pain.

It's called bureaucracy and unfortunately anyone who works a civil job has to deal with it.

I'm sure that lady is probably working 9-5, not a minute more, not a minute less, and could care less about a 'piece of paper at the bottom of a pile'.

I wouldn't be upset w your husband. I'm sure he did all that he could do other than physically handle the paperwork.

The same thing happened to my brother when he got off Conditions. But they wanted to take his entire paycheck until it was paid back, he had to beg them to set up a payment plan.

UGH - it took almost a year for payroll to switch DH's paycheck to a non-city resident.

I had a friend who it took a year for them to switch her to his insurance plan - luckily she kept her own (she works for BOE, so they were bugging her to drop hers).

I HATE the NYPD. DH is on a 5-2 schedule, so he earns an extra day every 2 weeks. Yet, they call him in on his 2 days off all the time. He can never make plans, they pay him jack sh*t, and he never knows if actually has a day off he's requested until the day before. Roll call is a disaster, they put notifications to work his days off when he's already gone, so they're always calling him to come in. I pray he'll get into Suffolk (which is a shot in the dark) and next I hope for Nassau.

aw, jellybean - don't be mad at him the SAME thing happened to me when i switched from straight 4x12's to a detail where i didn't always get night diff. even though payroll were the ones that told ME that i had to start submitting the night diff form and that i wouldn't be getting full night diff anymore, STILL they kept giving it to me and then after 6 months or something i owed, and had to give back every paycheck. honestly, i've seen it happen to just about everyone - it's not the people in payroll, it's the city. i can imagine how frustrating it gets for you though... i'm on the job so i should understand it firsthand and i still manage to get annoyed with my husband for things that deep down i know he has no control over. it's a stressful job, hang in there sweetie!

I hated when DH would procrastinate stuff there. Everything was such a pain to change and DH never wanted to be othered. He hated to go to 1PP and then his schedule never allowed him to get there. Good Luck! Sorry to hear. that s-u-c-k-s!
