Waking for the pacifier a MILLION times during the night

DD (almost 7 mos.) is a good sleeper. She goes down around 6:30 and wakes up around 5:30/6. HOWEVER -- for as long as I can remember, she has woken up needing her pacifier NUMEROUS times throughout the night. When this would happen when she was next to me in her bassinet, it was a non-issue (or so I thought). She has been in her crib now for over 2 months now and it is just becoming unbearable. Since 6:30 (tonight), she has woken up SEVEN times needing her pacifier. As soon as we put it in, she goes RIGHT back to sleep (she's only half-awake as it is). While it's bearable during our waking hours, it's simply frustrating and exhausting in the middle of the night (on average, about 3x).

She does know how to put her pacifier back in but she's not even fully awake so she doesn't even look for it -- and I've tried letting her cry a little bit (5 min or so) and she just gets so upset. Chat Icon I keep waiting for her to "outgrow" this, but I'm not seeing an end in sight.

Any advice???

My neice would do this, so my sister put a few pacifiers in her crib so that way she would always find one. but if your dd isnt going to reach for it, that wouldnt be much help. sorry... hope it works out.Chat Icon

I have the same issue and its the ONLY time he wants the pacifier. HE doesnt even really use it at other times. ITs soo annoying. Its half the reason I put the crib in our room so I wouldnt have to go into his room 7 x's a night....

hes 7 months now too. Chat Icon

I am having this issue also!
At 5.5 months, DS just starting sleeping through the night!
I put him down at 9:30 and he wakes up at around 8:30, HOWEVER, he will wake up crying at about 1 am and 4 am looking for his pacifier!
I am thankful that he finally started to sleep w/o needing a bottle during the night, but this pacifier thing is soo annoying!

I just put 3 more pacifiers in her crib (all I could find right now!). I don't think it's going to work, but it's certainly worth a try! Chat Icon

I'll have to keep this in mind..DS wakes up ALOT during the night for his binky...He cant get it on his own b/c we still have to swaddle him. (He startles still and is constantly flailing his arms in his sleep-which wakes him up) We are trying to ween him off this though...

Honestly--I stopped giving DS the paci for this reason. He is 8 1/2 months and when I put him down he cries --i know he wants the paci, but after about 15 minutes he falls asleep without it. The first few nights were hard, but its better than getting up all night to give it to them

WE did the same thing around the same time with DD, we were just not loving getting up to plug her back in. It took a couple days of fussing before she fell asleep, but she never looked back.Chat Icon

Chat Icon One of the reasons I'm glad DD never took the pacifier!

DD used to go to bed with a halo of pacifiers. We literally started sticking about 5 in her crib. She just reached out her arm in any direction, and there one was.

Re: Waking for the pacifier a MILLION times during the night

Same thing happened with my son. It was making us crazy. We did 3 nights of CIO, and now he doesnt take a binky to go to sleep at night. He does take one for naps, but not at night time. It has made it soooo much better!!!
