Waking up early to work out? UPDATE
Does anyone do this? Since having DS, I've been finding the time to work out at night but it usually means I don't even start until 8PM or later and don't finish until 10PM. As great as I feel when I'm working out and then finished, I'm exhausted when I wake up. I'm contemplating waking up a 1/2 hour early to get some workouts done in the morning. Has anyone done this and what workouts do you do? I'm thinking of doing yoga/pilates/strength training in the AM and leaving cardio for the evenings/nighttime.
Thanks in advance!
6/19 - Well I did it! I woke up at 6AM today and did 20 minutes cardio on my treadmill and then the first workout on the 30 Day Shred dvd. I feel awesome! It was so nice to work out when DH and DS were still sleeping. No interruptions and it's really charged me up for the day. I did try getting up yesterday, was up at 6:15 and then DS decided he was going to wake up early. He NEVER does that so I'm hoping he'll keep to his regular schedule.
Thanks for the advice everyone!

Re: Waking up early to work out?
I do, it's the only time I have to myself because I'm too tired after DS goes to bed and there are usually other things to be done at that point. I get up at 5:15/5:30 and work out til 6ish. The first week is hard but after that it becomes habit!

Re: Waking up early to work out?
I alternate really - sometimes I get up at 5:30am and other times I do my workout after 8 pm -
its hard - but I am faithful to it - I have 3 kids - but i have to find the time somewhere - and its usually very early in the morning or at night. Sometimes I do both! I'll wake up and run on the treadmill at 5:30am for an hour - then I'll come home from work and after the kids go to bed - go down in the basement and either run some more and do some weight lifting and floor exercises.

Re: Waking up early to work out?
Thanks ladies. I usually wake up between 7 and 7:30 with DS but figure I can get up at 6:15 or 6:30 and be done by the time he wakes up. I'm hoping once it's part of my routine, the waking up early won't be so bad.

Re: Waking up early to work out?
I don't have a child so I really can't relate to your hectic schedule. However, I do workout in the AM. I get up at 5:45-6....I don't have the energy to run and work out in the PM and it cuts into other things I want to do.

I also do not have children but get up at 5:15am to work out. I feel I have more energy all day, rather than less! I do go to bed earlier to get up earlier, though.

Re: Waking up early to work out?
I don't have a child either, but I am a HARDCORE am worker-outer
I've been working out when I get up 4-5x a week for 6 years now and it has become an addiction. It gets me so revved up in the morning that Ive never needed caffeine.
If I try to workout later in the day, I talk myself out of it.
Also, working out in the morning means only one shower!

Re: Waking up early to work out?
I do!!!
Before DD I would work out after work. I was a regular at the gym. But after DD, I NEVER made it back. Ikept meaning to, but by the time DH came home (around 8), I was too pooped.
Finally I just decided that I would do it in the morning. I used to work out in the am with my old roomate. And it was great!! My first day was good. Second day was fine. The third day was a gorgeous day out so I decided to run outside in Riverside Park- and I haven't gone back to teh gym since.
Now, 4 days a week I run in the mornings before my family wakes up. Tomorrow i am even meeting my sister (a mother of 2).
I love it. Its a great way to start the day, have a little "me" time. Not to mention it encourages me to eat well because I don't wnat to "ruin" my workout and I have nothing hanging over me all day (I should work out).

Re: Waking up early to work out?
Normally I workout after work since I am a teacher and if I wanted to get in my long run I would need to be up at 4:15 am, which isn't happening. This morning though we got to go into work late so I got up at my regular time (5:30) and fit my workout in there. Now I can just relax - I love it!

Re: Waking up early to work out?
So, how'd it go? I've been forcing myself this week - so tired - but I feel so good having stuck with a routine after taking waaaaaaaaaay too long off.

Re: Waking up early to work out? UPDATE
This is something I've been trying to talk myself into for a while now. Wednesday morning I did it for the first time and I felt fantastic all day.
