Waking up too Early
Is there anything I can do about this? Miranda used to wake up pretty close to 7am which was great because I am a bit of a night owl and the nights I work I don't get home until close to 11pm so by the time I unwind its almost midnight. Well at some point that just shifted and she is pretty much awake at 6am every day which stinks but what's even worse is the days she's up at 5am I never just leave her be because I know she's hungry because she often won't take a bottle before bed and is a bird at dinner and also I always worry she's sitting in a poo diaper. Today I gave her a bottle and put her back in and she would not go back to sleep. Her room is dark and quiet. We've tried pushing bed time back and that was no help at all. Do I just have an early bird?

Re: Waking up too Early
We're having the same issue. She'd sleep till 7 or after, eat at 8 and go down for her nap around 9:30-10ish and nap for 2 hrs.
Now it's 6:30ish, eating at 7:30ish and down for her nap sometimes by 8am!!!!
And we are NOT morning people in this house

Re: Waking up too Early
My son goes to sleep at 7:00 and doesn't wake throughout the night, but I hear him at 5AM every morning. I get up at 5:30, so I lower the monitor and try to sleep until 5:30. when I get up he is quiet and then sleeps until 6:15/6:30. He usually poops in the morning, so my theory is that he poops at 5 and then goes back to sleep. I understand you do not want to leave them, BUT the earlier you go in, the earlier they will get up. My son is 6 mths and when I have gotten him before 6 AM, he is all smiles but has a bad morning and is asleep again by 7:30, by leaving him in there, he gets another hour snooze and then doesn't nap until 9 and is happy all morning.....
I am lucky though- when he wakes up he isn't crying...he is babbling etc, so I have no problem leaving him. We never pick him up before 6, but 6 is a natural time for him to wake up......

Re: Waking up too Early
DS wakes every morning b/w 6 - 6:30 and during the week it doesn't bother me but on weekends I wish it was more like 7:30. I have tried everything from a later bedtime to an earlier bedtime but unfortunately he is regular and every morning goes #2 at this time. When he wakes I usually leave him there until he starts to complain, then I pick him up. Sometimes he will sit in there and talk to himself for 1/2 hours before he starts whining.

Re: Waking up too Early
Emily woke up between 5:30 and 6:30 EVERY day during the school year. When the summer started she slept later for a while, but that's out the window again. Now it is anywhere between 6-6:30.
I've tried everything I can think of and nothing works. The only thing I do some days if I'm really exhausted is go back to sleep when she takes her morning nap but usually I have too much to do like shower during that time!!!!

Re: Waking up too Early
Let me in on teh secret. I can do 5:30 am (her prior feeding time before and go back to sleep), feed until 6 gym until 7. Shower get ready for work. Feed her again around 8:30- take her to daycare and off to work. Perfect.
But of couse as soon as I went back to work she started waking up at 4:30. So no gym for me- and I need it.

Re: Waking up too Early
Jake went through the same thing at around the same age.
I think it's the beginning of a shift in her nap schedule. Jake did the earlier waking when he was getting ready to shed his third nap. It's like he was getting too much sleep during the day so he naturally woke up earlier in the mornings.
He went back and forth between taking the third nap and not taking it for several weeks until finally it was gone completely and once it was gone, he went back to sleeping later in the mornings. Now he sleeps later than he ever did (sometimes until 7am) which teeters on making me late for work. Last weekend he slept in until almost 9am and even though it worried me a little I was like thank you for letting BOTH mommy and daddy sleep in one weekend!

Talia also went through a few weeks like this-she just started waking up later again - so I hope it passes for you too!

My mom always said that they do this when you go back to work because they just "know" and want to spend more time with you.
It was her way of making me feel better about the fact that I was getting NO sleep at all!

Re: Waking up too Early
My almost 3 year old gets up anywhere from 5am-6am everyday. My daughter was like that but I can't remember at what age. She "can" sleep later but if she hears her brother up, she gets up too.

Re: Waking up too Early
My daughter is like this at times. She goes down anywhere between 7:30 - 8:30 pm and will sleep through the night till 5 - 6:30 am. Of course - we love when we sleeps in till 6ish - because we are busy getting ready to go to work in the morning - but i personally haven't found a way to control it. She will eat and the same time on most nights (same amount of food) and wake up at different times in the morning. We are grateful she actually sleeps through the night - but i guess it has to do with her day rituals and if she gets naps during the day etc.....
I wish i had a solid answer for this.

I do the same thing, especially when I have to work but no nap for me today because I had a helper here this morning helping me pack for our move.
