Walk or stroller - NYC

Forgive my ignorance but we are going to the city to Radio City on Thursday. Jeremy will be in a stroller, should we bring one for Emma too? I don't know if we should just let her walk, holding hands of course. Which do you think would be easiest? She is 4 1/2.

Re: Walk or stroller - NYC

You probably would do better with a stroller for Emma. Only because that area is very crowded, the corners when you're crossing the street, especially. Not sure how you'd handle it with the subways, I don't know where there are elevators in Penn and which subways going to Radio City have them going back up to the street. Hopefully some of the LI commuters can help you I commute from upstate. Have fun!!

I'm assuming you arent taking the 2 kids alone...so as long as you arent trekking all over the city and have someone 1-on-1 for Emma, I'd let her walk.

We use a sit & stand stroller. I would definitely go stroller if it's a double.

Karen - do you have a double stoller or were you opting for two separate ones?

I would definitely bring a stroller. The sidewalks are so crowded and people are always pushing; she'll probably feel safer in a stroller.

I would say stroller also --- just because it gets so crowded and I think she'd be safer in a stroller as opposed to walking where she is down low and could get bumped around a lot. You always have the option of letting her walk if she really wants to and still pushing the stroller for Jeremy, but I'd bring it with you to have the option.

Plus, just think --- you can do some shopping too and put the bags in the basket underneath!!

I have a double stroller (tandum) 2 umbrellas and 1 travel system single stroller.

I don't think we are going to do any shopping, DH isn't into thatChat Icon

In that area, I would, definitely, use strollers. It is unbelievably crowded and little ones could easily get trampled. I'd use the umbrella stroller for each of them. Easy to get around with and compact when folded, if needed.

Re: Walk or stroller - NYC

I knew that my response would be the less popular one but I do have a reason for choosing it - havwhen I was pg with #3, I found it was better for everyone to get use to different scenarios where I didnt use the stroller as a backup for the oldest. When I didnt use the stroller as a possible option for him, it was much easier when I had the 3rd to to not being able to do it even in a pinch. He was pretty much never using the stroller anyway but I'd use it here and there, but we both had to get that option out of our heads and it made it easier for the next time.

Re: Walk or stroller - NYC

As former NYC girl and a mom of 2 here's what I would do.

I would bring two umbrella strollers if your 4 1/2 wasn't a big walker and likes the stroller. I would not even think about bringing my double stroller because of it's size and weight. Remember some stations have stairs (most have lots of stairs) so imagine carrying the double stroller and two kids up and down stairs. Now add crowds on top of that. If your daughter is use to walking and you have one adult to hold her hand, I may opt on one stroller. Depending on the child.

Also, where are you going to put the stroller at in Radio City? Also depending on your seats you may have to go up or down more stairs there too.

Re: Walk or stroller - NYC

If the 4.5 yo walks well and that's all you are going to do for the day, I might opt for one stroller.

If not, I think the 2 umbrella strollers (since there are two of you) is the next best option.

I also think a walk by macys and maybe up 5th ave by the tree would be nicer than the subway, but I don't have 2 to worry about - so not sure you should listen to me Chat Icon
