Walking shoes..

I get a different story from everyone...

When do you get them?

When the walk completly by themself???

Ryan is always barefoot (or has socks on) and we have a couple pairs of sneakers or sandals- that Ive bought to match his outfits- but he has rarely worn them...

He is walking with me holding his hands... or with any kind of walking toy, laundry basket, chair, ANYTHING that he can push-

so is it time for the walking shoes??

Or do I wait until he is 100% really walking?

Re: Walking shoes..

I've read that you wait until they are 100% walking. They say that barefoot is best b/c it develops their ankles. He is barefoot whenever we are in the house but when we go out he wears sandals and he walks ok in them (much better without them). He is doing the same as Ryan.....walking holding my hand and with his push toy. I think he'll be walking within the next month so I'll be thinking about them soon.....

Re: Walking shoes..

I also heard barefoot is best. Ava has a hard time even trying to stand up when she has shoes on. I leave her barefoot all day unless we go out. I'd wait with the walking shoes until he is 100%

Re: Walking shoes..

Stride Rite makes shoes that are for pre-walkers. I used them with both kids, and they were great! They are soft and flexible, so they are not an impediment to learning to walk independently, but they look cute and protect little ones' feet. They make 3 or 3 stages of shoes, that go up to walking. If you're happy with barefoot, that works too, but I always wanted the cute look, and the protection was great, especially outdoors.Chat Icon

A lot of people (myself included) like the robeez for this stage while out and about. A lot of different companies make them now, too.

It is. The longer they are barefoot the better.

The robeez is more like a slipper and just protects their feet when outside or out in public.

From what I have read barefoot is best. What about some Robeez if you're outside somewhere and want to protect his feet?

Re: Walking shoes..

I didn't put Caiden into any kind of shoes until he started walking. I mean taking his first steps. Up until then he was in socks or barefoot. I heard that it wasn't good for them to wear shoes before then that it's better to be barefoot. Something with their feet forming.

OK- nerd alert here (me).

I was a "fitting specialist" in college for children's shoes Chat Icon

Barefoot is best until they are walking like crazy. Then get a good sturdy pair of walking shoes for them. Don't have them wear them all the time though. Do not just get any "cheap" pair of shoes from payless etc... you don't need to spend a fortune on shoes but make sure they are sturdy and can support the foot.

I haven't had anything on Bella since summer really kicked in...she is barefoot almost all the time...she is much more confident that way...TOO CONFIDENT Chat Icon

She is also walking with her walking toy and refusing to sit...anytime you try to put her on the floor she sticks her legs out for standing...she also likes to let go of what she is holding on to and test her limits Chat Icon Chat Icon

I had Jack in Robeez for some time when he started walking and then when he was truly walking I bought him the Stride Rite Classic first walkers above.

Definitely keep him barefoot for the summer as much as possible. We opted for Stride Rite. I heard it's definitely worth the trip to the outlets for them.

Re: Walking shoes..

Jared is barefoot in the house and only wears Stride Rite shoes. My mother swears by them.
