Wall air conditioners - do you insulate the outside?
We have drafts coming into the house from the wall AC unit we have and I need to do something about it.
I think I could totally cheap out and wrap the outside in bubble wrap - I first found out about how great an insulator it was for potted plants over the winter. I could build a foamboard cover too.
Or I could see if any of you found a solution in a store somewhere and just buy it.
Do you insulate your AC units? If so, how?

my parents put a covering on the inside and outside. however last year the outside covering became home to a birds nest.

We just use the inside covers. One year we did the outside covers and they blew away in a big storm. It happened a couple of our neighbors too so I don't think it was that we all put them on wrong, but it's possible.

if you use the outdoor ones, you really need to duct tape them so they stay on tight.
inside, i just bought one yesterday and put it on. it's like a shower cap. it's elastic and just wraps around it. i did notice a HUGE difference last night in temperature, which i didn't expect. i thought i'd help a little bit, but seems to have helped a lot!

I'm on the second floor so ca't reach the outside. I use the indoor quilted cover with a towel inside for extra insulation.Home Depot

We bought the outside covers at Lowe's. It's like a tarp with an attached bungee cord that wraps around and secures it to the unit.

we used the same ones, but they ended up blowing away one windy day. so we covered the inside with the thermal tape. looks so dumb, but it's working.
now we're thinking of creating one with a diy wood frame and a painted canvas with insulation on the back. i'm not thrilled with the fabric covers.

My parents cover the units with black garbage bags and duct tape.
