Want to adopt a long haired kitten
Does anyone know where I can look? I've been looking all over the web for days now, and only finding pure bred kitties, for $600 and over, most of which aren't even in NY. I def. can't afford that, as tempting as it is. I love the looks of Ragdolls and Ragamuffins, but by no means am I looking for a pure bred. I just want a male long haired kitten. Is there adoption agencies that I can call to ask if they have before I make the trip out there? Since I will have my DS with me lol. If someone can just help guide me in the right direction...TIA!!! I already checked craigs list, ebay classifieds, and a bunch of random other sites. Please help! I would loooove to pick him up next week.

Re: Want to adopt a long haired kitten
Try Greatful paw- League for Animal protection in Northport. I am not sure if it is Northport or East Northport. If you google them under greatfulpaw, it should come right up- I just adopted the best cat there 2 weeks ago. They have all kinds of cats or try petfinder.com Hope this helps. I cannot say enough great things about this shelter.

Re: Want to adopt a long haired kitten
Thank you soo much! I already tried pet finder...not too much luck there...less I'm just doing something wrong LOL. I tried calling grateful paws, but for cats / kittens, they are only available 1-4pm...so I will be calling them shortly. Thank you soo much!
Does anyone know of any other places that I can call or try looking at online? THANKS!

Re: Want to adopt a long haired kitten
I am not too familiar with cats but I know that dog breeds have rescue organizations. Maybe see if something like that exists?

Re: Want to adopt a long haired kitten
There is a new pet store in freeport that has cats for adoption: All about Cats 516-379-CATS. There is also a place in Bethpage: 516-849-5232. I would also keep checking on craigslist as there are numerous cats constantly on there.

Re: Want to adopt a long haired kitten
Thanks so much for all the responces. I will check them all out. I would prefer a kitten so that I can train him my way ... if that makes sense...since it's a cat LOL. Also, persian is the ONE cat that I don't like...I always think that they ran into a door to make their face all smuched up lol. I will keep doing some reaserch and making phone calls.. Thanks again!!

Re: Want to adopt a long haired kitten
Unless you contact a breed specific rescue and adopt an older cat, I think it will be tough. Since most shelters will have mixed breed kittens, it is hard to tell what their coat will be like when they are so young.

yea, you can't really tell what they're going to look like when they're kittens. here are some pics of when we first got him and what he looks like now ... TOTALLY DIFFERENT!

I loooooove your cat! That's very simular to my last Kitty... just compeltely different coloring LOL.
I know some are hard to tell short or long hair as kittens...but some you can def tell. DH likes short hair, but I always had a thing with long hair LOL. I just can't see spending too much money on a cat... LOL. Augh... I hope one just comes my way. I wrote a million emails to different places, and called a bunch of places... we'll see. thanks again!

My faves are Ragdoll, Ragamuffin, and then Maine coone LOL. But honestly I'll settle for any long haired mutt at this point LOL.

Re: Want to adopt a long haired kitten
I have a male Maine Coon mix. I got him at my vet. Comes April there will be a lot of kitties around. You may have better luck.
My vet gets kittens and adopts them out.
Plainview Animal Hospital 516-694-5050.
he gets long hairs and short hairs and it's just the luck of the draw.
I never knew I wanted a long haired kitty but my Izzy is the sweetest boy.
Check out pics in my album.

Re: Want to adopt a long haired kitten
With spring right around the corner you'll have the pick of the litter at all town shelters. If you can wait, please do! I have always had adult cats until my last one passed away. August of 2009 I decided to foster a kitten and OMG it was soooo much work. It really was like having a baby. It cried at night, climbed up my curtains, and as sweet as she was, bit me often! I know kittens are adorable but as a mom to a 16 month old, when I'm ready to have another lifelong cat, I'll never adopt a kitten! As cute as kittens are, I'll go for the 1-2 year old cat that is fully grown and out of the "baby" stage! Best of luck to you and when you do adopt, be sure to post lots of pictures!

Re: Want to adopt a long haired kitten
yea i highly doubt i will go for tiny kitten again, it was hard work and i felt guilty leaving her alone after taking a week off to stay home with her since we had to lock her up for two months.

Re: Want to adopt a long haired kitten
check the brooklyn care and control or manhattan care and control, they don't always post all the animals but I always recommend there first b/c they are a kill shelter. Same thing with Town of Hempstead animal shelter in Wantagh
