Want to share Cailen's sleep lately... I feel its safe now...
I was afraid of posting and jinxing myself, but things have been so successful, I wanted to share with you ladies.
Many of you guys are no strangers to the endless whiny posts I have brought here about the awful sleep patterns he had...
I knew in my heart of hearts he was a belly sleeper, but just could not do it. I don't know if I ever mentioned this, but his daycare was sletting him sleep on his belly when he began there at 2 mts and didn't tell me. I was upset and they stopped, and he stopped napping there...
So, DH and I were actually going to wean him off the swing starting this weekend, and I was dreading it, but last week, he began waking up a lot in his swing, and not wanting to go back in it...
I was freaking out - I didnt put it together that it was the swing - I thought he was just getting worse with his sleep.
One night, he woke up, and I lay down with him on the couch, and he fell asleep on me. I was patting his back, and decided to just see what would happen if I put him belly down in his PNP, and continue to pat his back. I did it, and he went down immediately!!!
He slept for 4 hrs that way, woke up, had a bottle, went back down immediately when I put him on his belly and patted him. I hardly slept because I was so nervous, but he was so well rested in the morning....
This happened every night!!! This afternoon, DH put him to play in the PNP for tummy time, and he put himself to sleep!!! I almost passed out from shock - this kid hates sleeping normally. I feel now that he's sleeping on his belly, he is realizing that he likes to sleep. Sometimes at night, he's not fully out before I put him down, and he wriggles himself into a comfy position, and coos himself to sleep - this is all so novel and mind blowing to me after all this time...
So, as I mentioned, he has such good head control, and can lift his whole chest up now with his arms... I know he will shift himself around to get comfy. All these factors make me feel more comfortable about doing this....
Just wanted to share since you ladies have been with me thru a lot of this, and I also want to put it out there to help other moms out....

I am so happy that you have found something that works. Lucas has been sleeping on his tummy since he was 5 weeks old and it's the only way he will sleep now. He loves it and gets the best rest that way. It is scary at first but once theY show you that they can left their head and move it from side to side to get comfortable it's a lot easier to get some sleep yourself.
Yay for you and Cailen.

Thanks ladies - he has been so happy and well rested lately - if any ladies remember him at the recent GTG, he was so exhausted it was painful to look at....

Re: Want to share Cailen's sleep lately... I feel its safe now...
DS has been sleeping on his belly for about a months now (he started around 4 months). He was an early roller and no matter what type of sleep positioner (I call them "baby bumpers") I tried, he was determined to sleep on his belly. He would roll over them or kick it out of the way. I was so nervous...I don't think I slept for a week. I was up and down constantly making sure he was breathing and wouldnt suffocate. At his 4 mo. dr. appt. I was even afraid to tell the dr. I was letting him sleep on his belly and when I did he said it was fine. He is strong, was able to lift up his body and head and was already rolling and he said to let him be. Now I think it is the cutest thing when he sleeps on his belly. He pulls his legs in and sleeps on his belly with his little butt in the air He will be ok....I rememer how nervous I was as well!

That's great! I think my DD will end up being a belly sleeper too - right now it's hard for me to keep her on her back...she ends up rolling on her side no matter what I do!

Re: Want to share Cailen's sleep lately... I feel its safe now...
Well that is wonderful that he is sleeping now. I could have wrote that myself last year. Hailey slept on her back for 2 weeks, didn't sleep for the next 6 and then her swing for the 4 weeks after that. I finally tried her belly and she slept for 11 hours waking once for a feeding! I got the angel care monitor which really helped ease my worries, it used to go off once in awhile if she scooted in the corner of the crib but at least I knew it worked. Congrats!
