Wanted to share our great experience with SafTSwim
I hesitated a long time for DS to go to SafTSwim. Postponing!
He has the worst sensory issues with the bath.
But he loves the pool.
I finally caved in a few weeks ago and enrolled DS in swimming. Private one on one lessons. I never met his swim instructor but was assured he was great with kids on the spectrum.
DH brings DS to swimming and reports to me about his sessions.
It is amazing what he had been able to do in 3 sessions. He has learned that he is cannot walking/fall into the pool. He must wait to be instructed to go in the pool. The rules on how and where to come in and out of the pool. AND most of all, he puts DS UNDER WATER. He has learned to kick his feet/legs. To close his mouth when going into water. The instructor is young but work with a few other kids on the spectrum. I left the activity to Daddy (I work anyway at the time of his session!) and I probably would hold his progress by telling the instructor NOT to push DS. DS is having a complete blast. I knew he loved the pool. I did not realize he would progress that fast. He even go find his swimsuit to give his dad to they can go swimming... at 7:30pm.
Being so busy with school and home services, it is very important for me and DH that we only add "FUN" activiities. Of course, DS thinks it's just fun when in fact he does horseback riding for OT, core strengh and vastibular input and swimming for water safety and sensory issues.
But hey.... it works!

that is great. Christopher LOVES going to swimming. He will find his bathing suit every day and give it to me and try to put them on.

My DS started about 6 weeks ago and he has also had a great experience. His instructor is young, but really good with him and DS loves him. He asked this morning if he could go see him and go in the pool, but we go on Sundays.

We go to Westbury too so they might have the same instructor. I specifically asked for someone who worked with kids on the spectrum. DH told me he was a great instructor.
