Was anyone's rhogam shot not covered by insurance?
I just realized we paid over $400 for the rhogam shot I got during pregnancy!  How can this not be covered by insurance? With my first pregnancy I didn't have to pay for it, but I had it done in my ob/gyn's office. This time I had a different ob/gyn and different insurance and I had to go to the outpatient lab at the hospital to get the shot.

I forget exactly what the issue is there was a lot about this on the pregnancy board when I was pregnant with DS...
You might want to cross post over there and someone might know the answer.....if noone over here remembers. My memory is shot.

I paid out of pocket for it twice but it was about $200. I had to get it after my M/C and then when I had it when pg with Ryan. I never got charged for the 2 times I had it in the hospital (when I bled a little early on around 8wks and after I delivered) but they still might catch me. It's really annoying!

mine was covered but it was a pain in the neck to get it. I had United Healthcare at the time, with Merck Medco as my prescription provider. I had to have it delivered to my home through Medco's home delivery option, otherwise it would have been much more expensive. I was on the phone with them 5 times.

mine is not if I go to a local pharmacy- I have to use the in network pharmacy to get it- thanks you just reminded me I have to call them and find out who my dr has to send the rx too and they will deliver it to the dr.s office .

It's supposed to be covered under your medical plan, not your RX plan. I would call your insurance company and find out how you can appeal it. I had to pay out of pocket for it the one time I got it at the Dr. office that didnt' supply it, and I was reimbursed.

Appeal Appeal Appeal and then appeal to the NYS dept. of insurance. How can they not cover something that is medically necessary for you and your baby to survive? It falls under pre-natal care and if they are covering visits, bloodwork, the shot in the hospital, etc., they have to cover Rhogam.
