Washing Clothes Before hand....BTDT Moms...
How many of you only washed a certain amount of clothes? I was told not to wash all, only enough for 2 weeks, in case the baby is either really small or big at birth.
Is this true???

Re: Washing Clothes Before hand....BTDT Moms...
I washed all my 0-3 months clothes and either hung them up for put them away. I don't do newborn clothes since i tend to produce big babies, newborn sizing only goes to 8lbs anyway.

im washing all my newborn and 0-3 month clothes. i only received a few newborn sizes so even if she doesnt fit in them, it wont really be a waste for me. i'll just try to pass them along to someone else.

Re: Washing Clothes Before hand....BTDT Moms...
I washed all of the 0-3 months and towels and washcloths and stuff. DS ended up being a preemie and needed newborn stuff, which I didn't have any of and had to buy after the fact!

Great thread I was just thinking about this same question...on the other hand at what age do you not need to wash the clothes prior to them wearing them?

DS #1 is a little over 2 yrs old and I still wash all of his before he wears them because he has very sensitive skin. I would say at least for the first year if they have no issues but most likely still longer than that anyway.

Re: Washing Clothes Before hand....BTDT Moms...
I just washed everything. We don't have much newborn size stuff at all... so I washed the very few items I had (maybe 3 outfits)... and I figure she will eventually fit into all the other clothes because she'll grow into them at some point... so that was all just washed as well. I just want it all to be done early on so I don't have to worry about it later on.
I could see holding off if you had a lot of newborn stuff.

Re: Washing Clothes Before hand....BTDT Moms...
not a BTDT but i washed Nb + 0-3. i didn't have THAT much NB so i wasn't too concerned about taking a loss on it by washing it. even if baby fits into ALL his clothing...I'm sure I'd want to wash it again after 3, 6, 9, and 12 months of sitting there so it seemed like a waste of detergent and time to wash anything above 3 mos

Same. We washed everything: nb, 0-3, and 3-6. Keep in mind that different brands fit differently, and will work for your LO at different times... and there will be days where you go through 2-3 outfits!

Only washed newborn and 0 to 3 months. Ds was a peanut and wasn't ready for the season everyone bought him clothes for. So just stick with the basics and go fro there.

Re: Washing Clothes Before hand....BTDT Moms...
i didn't wash any NB - only 0-3mos. I'm glad, because even though DS was only 8lbs @ birth, he had a long torso and NB didn't fit. I returned all the NB clothes.

Re: Washing Clothes Before hand....BTDT Moms...
I washed almost everything 0-3 months and up. My dr told me to return any newborn clothes since baby was over 8 lbs... so i did.
DS was born at 8 lbs 15 oz and 0-3 month clothes were FALLING OFF him. DH had to go out once we came home to buy some newborn clothes!
Maybe keep a couple on hand with the tags on it still so you can always exchange.

Re: Washing Clothes Before hand....BTDT Moms...
I washed all his newborn (which wasnt much) and all his 0-3 and a few of his 3-6(like maybe 3). I washed all his blankets, towles etc. Although looking back I wish I didnt wash all the blankets. I have like 30 blankets LOL! I should have returned half of them. They take up so much space! I'm guessing b/c he was a winter baby a lot of people bought blankets?

Re: Washing Clothes Before hand....BTDT Moms...
DS#1 = Washed all 0-3 clothing. Ended up not using many if any of the onsies I washed cause he was too big. Didn't wash towels or wash cloths or blankets.
For DS#2 - some will be hand me downs from DS#1 most is already washed but I may throw it the wash just to be sure. Anything new is just going on him straight from the hanger.
Oh and Dreft is a waste of money. Love All Free and Clear...did Dreft with DS #1 and the clothes never felt fully clean. I stopped using it fairly quickly and been washing his clothes in All Free and Clear since.

Re: Washing Clothes Before hand....BTDT Moms...
I only washed a few newborn and a few 0-3 months. They kept saying I was having a really big baby, so I didn't want to wash too many newborn clothes. She ended up being 7 lbs. 13 1/2 oz. and wore all of the newborn clothes.

Re: Washing Clothes Before hand....BTDT Moms...
I washed all newborn, 0-3, and 3-6... Most of my stuff are hand me downs- they did have tags on some of them, but they are prob like 2 years old and I wouldn't return them. Since I don't know how big my little girl is going to be, and all clothes brands run differently, I figured this would be the best thing to do.
Good luck.
Also, my lamaze coach recommended ALL Free and Clear because you can use it on your clothes as well. (without fabric softener that is if you combine your clothes and baby's) They have ALL free and clear on sale usually at Bj's sometimes Target has it on sale too. It's made for HE machines too.
