Washing Down

Why does the tag on my down comforter say Dry Clean only? I thought you were able to wash down?

Re: Washing Down

Hmmm.... I worked in a dry cleaners once - she didn't like to Dry Clean down - the chemicals never really leave the feathers, and if the fabric on the outside is a light color, it usually comes out discolored. She'd tell the customer to wash it in a washing machine withOUT an agitator (like at the laundromat), then hang to dry.
