Washington DC area hotel recommendations

We are going to Washington DC the 3rd weekend in September, just DH and I, no kids. I posted last month on FHF that DH and I were renewing our vows just the two of us and our newly retired pastor in Silver Spring. We are going to be in the area for a 3 day weekend. I'm looking for hotel recommendations. Doesn't have to be in Silver Spring, we are open to anywhere in the DMV area. I don't want a comfort inn type place though. We never really went on a real honeymoon and we've never really been away so we want to fancy it up haha! Obviously we don't have an unlimited budget but I'd like for it to be really nice...am I making any sense? Probably not.

Anyway, any recommendations?

Any restaurant recommendations also?

Also... Would you drive or take Amtrak? I'm thinking it might be fun to take the train and not have the responsibility of one of us driving

The Mandarin Oriental is nice. I love their spa.

Georgetown has a Ritz and Four Seasons.

The W is very modern.

If you want a more honeymoon type getaway, you may want to check out Salamander or the Inn at Little Washington.

We had a great stay at the Park Hyatt last year. As a bonus, the restaurant in the hotel was delicious and it's one of DC's top rated restaurants.

The Hotel Monaco is really nice and you can get the Metro to Silver Spring only steps away!

I love taking Amtrak, totally stress free.

They Hay-Adams is also nice, very classic.

You don't want to drive in DC, it's like a spiderweb! If you want a small boutique-y hotel, try the monaco or any Kimpton.
I love the Ritz Carlton personally and the Park Hyatt. Not supermodern and fresh but luxe and polished.

We live in the DC suburbs and we drive everywhere. DC is very different than NYC in that you can always find parking. Granted you need to either meter park or park in a garage.

Lots of people uber it but I prefer the convenience of having my car.

Depends on what you're looking for and what your budget is.

we stayed at the Washington Hilton almost 2 years ago and got a great rate through an online deal. it was something like $99-110 a night. I forget whether I pricelined it, hotwired it, or just found it online. Room was smallish but newly renovated and clean. Large Large hotel, but it is in Dupont Circle, so it was near restaurants and such.

The other hotels mentioned are as nice or significantly nicer. However, this was a good value for a nicer level hotel. We drove there, I also looked online before hand for a parking garage and found one about a third of a mile away for like $15 a day. Which was huge compared to the $50 the hotel wanted to charge.
