Washington DC Thanksgiving weekend
My whole family is going the Friday after Turkey Day for the weekend. Anyone have any ideas on tours? restaurants? I haven't been there in years
My sister and her kids are going too so any suggestion for kids tours or things to see would be greatly appreciated.
thanks

the smithsonian is great - (and free) they have an air and space museum, natural history museum, and american history museum (I think that reopens on the 21st). Those are great for kids of all ages. There used to be a carousel on the mall but not sure if it is still there.
The national zoo is great too.

We are thinking of going fri-sun too.

Re: Washington DC Thanksgiving weekend
We just went Columbus Day Weekend with the kids and had a great time.
They loved National Zoo. Another big hit was the Bureau of Printing and Engraving (also free) - they were totally in awe of watching money being made. The Air and Space Museum was a big hit too.
Mt. Vernon is amazing - it's just unbelievable to see where George Washington lived and his personal belongings, his grave, etc. It's only about 15 minutes away from the city and it is absolutely beautiful there.
If you want to go up in the monument (very cool) you can order tickets online ahead of time for $1.50 each. Or else you have to go early in the morning to get tickets for that day (then they are free but it just wasn't worth the aggravation - I'd rather pay the $12).

Re: Washington DC Thanksgiving weekend
for tours - definitely do the on/off trolley tour. it is a green trolley "old town trolley" and they have a booth to buy tix and get info at located right in union station. you can look them up online too -- just yahoo old town trolley in washington dc -- it is the best way to see everything b/c they have stops everywhere and you can hop on/off at your leisure. another trolley comes every 25 minutes so you can stay as little as that or as much as you want depending on the stop!
HTH!!
