watch your purses ladies..Police seek purse snatcher in East Meadow

Nassau County detectives were investigating a robbery Tuesday at an East Meadow grocery store, police said.

A 54-year-old woman was loading groceries in her car around 3:30 p.m. in the parking lot of Stop & Shop, 2425 Hempstead Tpke., when a man pushed the victim against her car and ripped her pocketbook from her shoulder, police said in a news release.

The man, who was described as wearing a hooded sweatshirt that covered his face, immediately jumped onto a black mountain bicycle. He was last seen riding westbound on Hempstead Turnpike.

I am always at this store because Its so close to my house. Its scary! I would freak out if that ever happened to me..... I am already paranoid and nervous Chat Icon

There is a VERY easy fix to this, and your purse will NEVER get snatched.

When I take a cart I ALWAYS get one with a child seatbelt. Without fail. I wont take a cart without one. I then take my purse and "seatbelt" it in. And purse snatcher is looking to take and run. Even if they DONT see the seatbelt they will have a rude awakening when trying to take the bag. By the time the noise, the cart falling over, you screaming etc etc they are NOT hanging around to unbuckle the belt then run.

I have never had a problem because of this.

SEATBELT your bag in. EVEN when you are loading grocery's. Although I always take my bag out first and put it in the trunk while loading.

This is what I do and I wrap it around the cart/purse a few times.

that is such a good idea, and i'm going to do that from now on (when i don't have DS with me occupying the seat that is..).

I always have my purse in the seat and i totally admit to being dopey and turning away from it while i'm looking at the grocery shelves. Be very easy for someone to grab it and run.
