Water breaking question??

I've been thinking about this lately - are you ladies putting anything on your bed in case your water breaks when you're in bed? I was thinking that I should buy a waterproof mattress pad. My sister said that she just put an old beach towel under her.

Any thoughts?

Re: Water breaking question??

I was just thinking about this the other day, because I've read that if your water breaks spontaneously, it will most likely happen while you're sleeping. I think I'm going to just put a thick towel under my side of the bed. I can't imagine leaking enough to soak through that without waking up and going to the bathroom.

I'm sure you're right. That's a good idea. I think I'll do the towel thing too. I really didn't want to get one of those noisy waterproof mattress pads. Ew.

That was kind of my feeling. I didn't want to feel like I was sleeping on a crunchy diaper.

I got one of those pads that I thought would be noisy but you don't hear it or even feel it once you put the mattress pad and sheet down. I got it at Linens n things and I think it was like $11.99.

Yeah, I have a feeling I'll be having enough trouble sleeping, that I don't need the noisy crunch underneath too. Plus I think DH would not be happy with that either.

I've heard that ALOT recently. I think I even read a statistic that stated a large percentage never break on their own.

Yes I got like a vinyl mattress cover from Bed Bath and Beyond. We JUST got a new bed/mattress, etc. and it would just be my luck for my water to break there...especially since I spend 23 hours a day in bed. Chat Icon

Man I must be the dopiest preggo ever, I never even THOUGHT about this Chat Icon

I guess I should put something down on the bed in case this happens.. I just always had this vision of being out and about, like in the supermarket, and my water breaking - but I guess that isn't exactly realistic Chat Icon

I've actually heard that it's pretty rare to break your water while out and about. Most people either do it at home or have it done for them in the hospital. Chat Icon

ETS- I just asked this question on the parenting board, so maybe they can shed some light on this topic.

That's why I thought of it - our bed is like 3 months old and it was pretty pricey.

Re: Water breaking question??

Just in case I just put a towel under me a few weeks before I was due.... but with both my labors my water didn't break until I got to the hospital.
