Water.. How much is too much... How much is not enough?

I really need to know this. My dog has been spritzing all over my house including my rugs. He never did this before. Me & my DH think we may be giving him too much water. Hes a 12 lb dachshund. How much water per day is sufficient for a dog of his size. I dont want to dehydrate him by not giving him enough, but seriously, this is getting out of hand.

Thanks so much!

I would call your vet and ask... esp since the spritzing could be tied to a medical issue.

Does it happen at all times or when he gets excited? If it is at all times, I would probably call the vet.

I would call the vet dogs do not normally drink more then they need. I would want him checked for possible medical issues.

He is 1 year & a half. He spritzes when he gets excited, but now, it just seems as if hes just either doing it out of spite or he just cant hold his pee in Chat Icon I really dont know. I know dogs always drink when they need to, and he always has water available to him. But sometimes he just drinks & drinks- it quite hysterical watching him do it!

I'm going to check with my vet.

I agree with calling your vet

My cat was tinkling all over the place. Which is highly unusual for a cat.

He's a diabetic

It could be a simple infection or behavioral. It's better to see a vet. But I don't believe there's ever such a thing as too much water.

Good Luck

Janie, I had a mini daschaund when I was a little girl and I vividly remember how she used to spritz all over the place when we came home...we used to get her out of the apartment when we first opened the door so she wouldnt go all over the apartment, she was just so excited...and she did this until she was an old lady! But I don't recall her ever doing it in the apartment. Check with your vet definitely!

On another note, how has he been with the chewing? I remember our Gracia used to chew EVERYTHING!
