Wax-Clogged ear! HELP!!!

I am seeing the doctor tomorrow to check out my ear - it's clogged wth wax I think - can he just get it out and then I'll feel normal again? I can't hear at all out of my left ear! I tried using an ear wax removal kit but I think it made it worse!!! Chat Icon

ENT can help you out. I remember for the first few days after I had my ears cleaned out the noise hurt everything, because it was all so loud. Opened a can of soda and I would cringe.

Re: Wax-Clogged ear! HELP!!!

I had a really clogged ear and the dr. told me to use the ear wax kit. It took a good 4-5 days before the wax loosened up and came out. The kit I think reccommended to do it once or twice a day, but I was doing it 5 times a day!! You would be grossed out by the amount of wax that came out on the 5th day!!

Thanks ladies... the thing is - my ear is feeling so sore from the q-tips and I'm afraid I am damaging my ear - I will do the ear stuff again tonight....

Re: Wax-Clogged ear! HELP!!!

Instead of (or in addition to) the kit, you can also try warming some mineral or olive oil and pouring a little bit into the ear. It will melt the wax, but make sure its not too hot. You don't want to burn yourself!

Once it's in your ear, leave it for a few seconds and then tilt your head the other direction to let the wax come out.

I don't know that it will be any more effective than the kit, but maybe worth a try?

Good luck! Hopefully the doc will help you get it straigtened out.

The thing the ENT always tells me is NO QTIPS! All they do is push the wax in further.

Nothing smaller than your fingertip should go into your ear unless it's a doctor doing it.

Feel better.

Re: Wax-Clogged ear! HELP!!!

yeah, I didn't use q-tips with the ear wax kit, I would put the stuff in my ear, and lay on my side for 10 minutes then flush it out with warm water (my kit came with a bulb to use to flush your ear) then I would put more stuff in my ear and repeat the process. When I flushed my ear with the warm water, that was when all the wax finally came out.

DH has had this happen often, because he gets a little too pushy with the Q tip. It's painful at times for him but yes, an ENT will certainly be able to help you.

DH has to use peroxide in his ears once a week to keep from wax building up. And I tend to b!tch at him when he digs around with the Q tips.

Hope you are feeling better!
