We are going to NOLA for Memorial Day W/E!
DH and I are going to NOLA for Memorial Day weekend, staying at the Monaco Hotel. He has never been so it is up to me to initiate him - I have been only once but loved NO!!! We have dinner reservations Friday for NOLA, and brunch Sunday at Commander's Palace. Other than that....I want to take him to Preservation Hall, Laffittes, Pat O'Brien's (my sis got engaged there), Jackson Square, Cafe du Monde, and one of the "haunted" tours. What else should we do/see? Places for inexpensive but fun and tasty meals? I did the Ghost tour which was fun but kinda cheesy - any better tours you can recommend? Is a cemetery tour a good idea? Thanks for any help you can provide!!!

Re: We are going to NOLA for Memorial Day W/E!
oooh, have a great time! I love NO!!
Here are some other places we like:
Divine in the Royal Sonnesta Hotel on Bourbon Street. It's simple cafe that has the best po' boy sandwiches and onion rings. The service is good, it's inexpensive and quick.
Pere Antoine on Royal Street. It's a small casual restaurant that serves breakfast around the clock. They have a yummy french toast that is made from real french bread. THey also have a regular lunch/dinner menu. It's a nice place to eat with huge windows that open out to the street so you almost feel like you are eating outside.
Touche on Royal Street. It's a part of the Omni Royal Hotel. This is our favorite regular place down there. We have been going there for 4 years. Donna the bartender is great and actually remembers us from year to year. It's primarily a local bar but we go there anyway. This mostly a bar but they have a small menu.
Mr B's Bistro on Royal Street. This is a real favorite...great wine list. Great entrees & even better desserts. This is a little more expensive but the service and the quality warrants it.
Commander's Palace is another great option..they are expensive but we have been there a couple of times for their brunch. It's one of a handful true 5 star restaurants and it's really a great experience...the service is unparalleled. It's the perfect balance of very attentive yet invisiable. The last time I was there for brunch I think it was about $50ish per person off their prix fix brunch menu. It's in the garden district.
Harrahs along the river is good for a little fun too
The first time I was there, we went on a Garden District tour that stopped at a cemetary. That was pretty interesting. I don't know what's involved in a full on cemetary tour but I can't see wanting to go to a lot of them.

Re: We are going to NOLA for Memorial Day W/E!
I was born and raised there. Fabulous town, we are headed down for Labor Day week/weekend to see the family before school starts.
Be sure to take out a half hour to sit at Cafe Du Monde, have a benge (I just butchered that frech word for donught) and cup of coffee. And take in the music. The riverwalk is across the street to, you can jump on a boat if you like that.
And have a Hand Grenade.

A Hand Grenade claims to be the strongest drink in NO or some such thing...it's served in one of those 'yard' style cups. I only remember thinking it was disgusting but I know people that love it. I think it glows in the dark

Re: We are going to NOLA for Memorial Day W/E!
One of my favorite cities!!! Commander's Palace was my #1 choice for dining, we had dinner there & it was phenomenal, I'm sure brunch will be just as good. We did a walking cemetery tour, nothing "haunted" but very informative & cool (some funky "VooDoo chick" was our guide). Enjoy!!!
