We encountered out first potty training prob.
So Roman has been doing awesome at school and at home. He will just tell you and go on his own to the potty. Unfortunately he WILL NOT go potty in public places. He tells me he has to go but then freaks out when we get into the bathroom. He's got great holding control but I don't really want him to make a habit of holding it.
Any suggestions? Should I try bringing a simple toliet ring with me? He uses a free standing potty at home which I do not want to lug around for obvious reasons.

Re: We encountered out first potty training prob.
My son was the opposite! Everytime we were out, he had to sample every public bathroom if he saw one within 5 feet.
If it was just pee, my son had no problem. But when he had to poop, he had to have his potty seat - so I got a portable, folding one, AND super large potty seat covers from One Step Ahead so that I could put that on the seat first to prevent my portable potty seat from touching. Still gross no matter how you do it, but you do what you have to do. Luckily, in the 2 years he's been trained, he only had to #2 once while we were out!

Re: We encountered out first potty training prob.
DD was/is the exact same way. It took one time that she almost went in her pants that I put her on the potty at the mall (well held her up) and she basically had no choice (and cried but went). Then she was ok with going but was scared to death of the flushing. So I held her and made light of it and now she is ok. So in other words, it will get better in time I'd say. She was scared of public and also other peoples bathroooms.

I am not sure how tall he is but if he stands on feet (like you would be standing to pee) and you hold him, do you think he would pee then? DH's cousin does this with her son and public bathrooms.

With Sydney we used a foldable ring for a while, she doesnt need it anymore if you want to try it.

Re: We encountered out first potty training prob.
my mom said i used to do this when I was little! even at the babysitters if she used a cleaner that made the toliet water blue i would refuse to go! honestly I dont think she ever won out and I just held it until I was home or somewhere I was comfortable going!
im still skeeved out by using toliets in most places and will sometimes just wait until im home lol...i feel for your son!
