We found a great dining room set today but the china cabinet is too high
The china cabinet is 4 inches higher than the ceiling in our dining room. There is support beam above where the china cabinet would go so from floor to ceiling it's 80 inches and china cabinet is 84 inches. Could I sand down the feet at the bottom or is that dumb? We have been looking for a while and this is the only one we have found the we really like.
Here it is

I wouldnt take the feet off. I think it would look weird if it was so close to the ceiling.
Do you have to get a china cabinet? can you get a nice buffet instead?

that is a really nice piece, but i wouldn't ruin brand new furniture. what if it didn't turn out okay? can you get a different piece that would match with the table you love?

Buffets have a tons of space in them. the china closet gives you more room to display, but the bottoms are pretty much the same size as a buffet. You could get a larger one and a server and that should fit everything.

I agree with Christine. Also we looked for a long time before finding exactly what we wanted. We still don't have a china cabinet or buffet and we've been here 5 years.

I have something very similar (not the best pic:)
and we have low ceilings on the first floor (high ranch, but our kitchen/dr/lr is downstairs) so the cabinet is only 72 inches tall.

K--I definitely wouldn't start messing w/ the legs..that's taking a risk...what if it doesn't turn out okay & it'll be cutting it too close..
there's no real rush to have it ASAP..we have ours & its still sitting empty w/o the shelves in it b/c we're still working on our DR & such
I'd either get the buffet for the set or else wait it out & see other sets.

Re: We found a great dining room set today but the china cabinet is too high
I had a similar issue. Ceiling is 86 inches in my DR The set you showed was the ONLY set I could find that I even remotely liked that would fit. Nothing at Thomasville, Bassett (The one I liked was 99" high... WTH???? is it made for Versailles??), Ethan Allen had one or two but they were too casual for me.
I went back and forth for over a year and finally got the set you showed. It looks enormous in my DR due to the low ceiling but I really like it.
Can you do Canendale? They are custom and available through Raymore and Flanigan. You can mix and match your china, table, buffet, chairs. Pick your stain/finish, etc. I almost went with them but they didn't have much of a selection in upholstered chairs.
Good luck.

They sell a buffet with the set which I have.
I've also seen a lower, smaller display china cabinet as well.
ETA: I saw the smaller cabinet in a recent ad that featured the set. Probably was for Rt. 110 Furniture as they are the largest dealer of Broyhill on LI but I can't find it on the Broyhill website for Maison Lenoir the name of the set

Re: We found a great dining room set today but the china cabinet is too high
Just edited my response above
I'd call Rt. 110, even if you are not planning on buying from them. Tell them you saw an ad with a smaller display cabinet that matched the set and you think it might have been their store but you are not sure. Explain your predicament and maybe they can at least tell you if the cabinet exists.
I don't think the smaller cabinet is on display in their showroom, at least it's not right by the diningroom set.

Re: We found a great dining room set today but the china cabinet is too high
if you can't find a smaller china cabinet, is it at all possible to put it in another part of the room (where there isn't a ceiling beam)? Or even another room?
we're still renters, so I still am in the mindset that my furniture will be in a different place someday.... are you staying in your home for a very long time, or do you anticipate moving within the next several years? I wouldn't saw off feet unless you intend to stay in your current home for at least another decade....

I agree. Wait until you can be completely happy or you'll regret it later. I made so many "I gotta have it right now" purchases when we first got our house and I regret some of them now. (I would never tell DH this. He would kill me after all the $$ we spent!)If you're buying an expensive item and there is no major rush wait. I'm sure you'll find something that will be exactly what you want.
