We have a diagnosis for Miki's rash - with a ??
It is fifths disease, even though she has some atypical symptoms...the doctor did not see the need to do blood work since she has no fever and is acting fine, he was comfortable with calling it fifths
I asked him about KJ and he said infants usually have their mothers immunity for the first 6 months so he should be fine
BUT today my sitter called me and told me that KJ had a rash all over his belly...can I ASSume it is fifths as well
I thought the ped said they normally do not get rashy on their belly but I could be wrong

i'd rule out eczema first - that's where my DS' eczema first came out for the short time he had it.
Hope both kiddos feel better soon!

he definitely has eczema and has it all over his body in random spots but the sitter said it does not look like eczema, it is not scaley like eczema

Re: We have a diagnosis for Miki's rash - with a ??
spoke to the nurse, she said it is not fifths since it is on his belly
she said if it is not better in 3 days, with hydrocortisone (sp) cream or if his fever exceeds 100.0, I need to bring him in
never a dull moment

I was told by the nurse that it is not 5ths
who knows at this point, I think it is too coincidental that miki has that and now he has a rash too

You most certainly CAN have 5ths on your belly. I admit that for it to start on your belly is a bit unusual. But Im sure not unheard of...
Miki's started with the usual progression. Face first....etc. In my opinion she most definitely has 5ths. (not that Im a professional but Ive seen more than my fair share of 5ths cases)
5ths can react to heat, sunlight, and other outside stimuli. Perhaps b/c his belly is the warmest part of him that is the reason why it is showing up there? (Im grasping there I dont know that for sure)..
I think to say that it's not 5ths, over the phone, when he has a 50% chance of getting it from her, is cause for question.

I see your point, and I originally thought 5ths...if it is, there is nothing they can do anyway so I will monitor him and if he starts to run hot, I will bring him in
thanks
