We just found a dog **UPDATE**
well, two actually were running down our street ... a white Golden and a smaller reddish one. White dog was very friendly came right to me and to another woman walking her dog (who is usually not friendly).
The smaller dog, the one who had tags on, wouldn't come close and eventually ran away down to Bread & Cheese (busy road  ). We put white dog in my car and we went to the shelter on Depot Rd but no one is there until 8AM so he's back at my house for now (DH was alredy very late for an appt in the city).
I'm taking some pics so I can put up flyers once he's at the shelter. I hope the other dog is okay/makes it home. We kinda got the feeling they didn't come from the same home. The one with tags was cleaner and why would the same owners not have tags on both of their dogs?
White dog also is NOT neutered and appears to be older than younger (teeth condition, maybe a little hip arthritis).
But right now he is realxing on my dining room floor.
************UPDATE*************
DH just spoke to the shelter and he's getting a rabies shot right now and his owner's will be there by 5PM to pick him up!!!!

That's odd, two at once?? Maybe they found you, as opposed to you finding them.  , if you know what I mean.

Can you post a pic? It's nice to hear he is relaxing on your dining room floor. And I can't believe he isn't neutered. 
ETA- The simple fact that he isn't neutered makes me question his owners true concern for him, personally.

put an ad on the pets section of craigslist, people are always looking for lost pets there!

Juts got back from bringing him to the town shelter (I'm a mess between leaving him there and all the doggies staring at me from their outdoor runs when I left  )
I have his case number in case no one comes for him ...
He's definitely dirtier looking in person (and stinky! LOL) but I can't tell you how gently he took a piece of teriyaki steak from my hand!

He seems very sweet! Will you take him if no one claims him and how long do they give? Again, it greatly concerns me his owners did not care for him enough to neuter him.

We live in Fort Salonga and I just realized I'm lucky the shelter took him because they are Town of Huntington and our zip code is TOH but we are on the Town of Smithtown side of the road that is the cut-off.

He's a beautiful dog.
I agree with a PP. Put an ad on craigslist. That how we found the owner of a dog we found.
 he finds his way home.
