we started bryan in a new daycare this week
and the dropoffs have been heartwrenching. he is 2 so his emotions are in full force now. he clings to my leg and when the workers have to pry him off of me he starts hysterical crying and screaming, I want my mommy as I leave. He wasnt doing this before at the other place but this place is so myuch better for him and they say that he does enjoy himself during the day. Is there anything I can do to easr the drop offs? I try to make them quick and painless but that doesnt seem to be working. I tried having a talk with him too but thats not working either.

Does he have a lovey or favorite stuffed animal at home? Or maybe you can even buy him a special something that he gets to rbing with him every day?

Re: we started bryan in a new daycare this week
I just went through this a couple of months ago and it has gotten better. Some days he's walks right in and doesn't look back. We still have our episodes but there's nothing that I can do right now. I know that he's safe and I know that within a half of an hour he'll be eating and playing.
I leave him with something that makes him feel comfort (his blanket). He has it when he first gets there and when he naps. Also, if he feels uneasy during the day he will ask for it and they give it to him. You could try something like that as well.
It will get better.

Nate was the same when he started a new daycare in June. The first two weeks were tough, it was so hard to walk out the door while he's crying Mommy, no leave. It gets better bc by the third week he gave me a kiss and said goodbye.

Re: we started bryan in a new daycare this week
My DS started school just two days per week. The first three days, he was fine. The fourth day he went ballistic and didn't want us to leave.
We had a talk with him and I told him the mommy will always come back for him - always, always, always. I think he was worried that we would drop him off and he'd never see us again. Now he repeats it when we drop him off - mommy always comes back for me, right? Always, always, always. It seems to work for us.
My friend also recommended a book called The Kissing Hand. It's a storybook about going to school or day care and how the little child handles it. Maybe that might help too.

Leave a digital camera with the teacher for a few days. That way she can snap a few pix of him during the day- so you can see what he is doing, and all of the pix will be time stamped.
That helped me a lot.
