We think our Puppy is sick....
Daisy woke us up last Thursday night/Fri. morning (10/19) at 4:30am throwing up in bed. It was all mucous.
So, since she didn't get sick again, we thought nothing of it.
Now, this Friday, Daisy came downstairs with my husband and she did her business, but she refused to eat, except for 4-5 kibbles from our hand.
She fell back asleep on me on the couch and within 30 minutes, she threw up all over my sweater and the couch. It was all mucous.
So, we started watching her a bit more carefully and noticed that she's not wanting to eat her food as much as she used to, and she's not drinking as much water as she used to.
Then, I came home early from work yeaterday (after my BIL had stopped in the early afternoon to play with her)and the crate is covered in an 1/2 inch of pee, so I had to give her a bath, etc since she was rolling in it, in her crate. I take her outside afterwards to do her business and she does.
My husband comes home from work and while he's upstairs, Daisy pees on the carpet just as the heat is turning on through the baseboard heat. She started shaking uncontrollably and wouldn't go anywhere near any of the baseboards and went hiding under a pillow on the couch. She wouldn't touch her food until 9pm at night.
Then, this morning, she threw up in bed at 7am, and there was undigested food in it.
We plan on calling the vet tomorrow to schedule an appt, but I was wondering if anyone else's dogs did anything like this when they were 5-6 months old.
Also, does anyone have a dog(s) that are afraid of the noises associated with baseboard heating? How do you get the dog to relax and know that the noises won't hurt them.
One last thing....is this behavior a sign that the dog hates their food and wants it to be changed? We currently use IAMs puppy food (hard kibbles), and we were going to discuss with the vet changing her to adult food.
Sorry for the length of this, but any help/advice would be appreciated!

Re: We think our Puppy is sick....
Is it mucous or bile? When Charlie doesn't eat his stomach gets irritated and he throws up bile. It used to happen a lot when he was a puppy until we found the right food for him.
So if Charlie was not eating he would definitely be throwing up bile a lot and we would address the eating issue. I don't have any experience with mucous though.
Sorry I couldn't be of more help!

Its possible that she doesn't like her food, you could try switching. You could put some rice in her food, maybe a little chicken broth, see if that settles her stomach. But I would def call the vet as well.

Re: We think our Puppy is sick....
When my dog vomits, we dont give dog food. I take chop meat and cook that (best if you boil in water b/c the fat gets taken out) and i make white rice.. I mix them together and we give this to him to eat. Its lighter on the stomach and helps with the stomach ache.
Our vet has suggested this numerous times with all our pets when ill or after they had a surgery.

Re: We think our Puppy is sick....
We gave her white rice for her lunch and dinner last night and she didn't get sick! Thank goodness.
She ate a little bit of regular dog food that my MIL uses combined with the white rice, and maybe that is the key.
She hasn't gotten sick and maybe it's the food she wants changed.
I'm calling the vet Monday (they're closed on the weekend based on their voicemail), to make sure they don't want to run any tests on her.
We'll buy her new dog food in the enxt day and see how she does with the new food.

Re: We think our Puppy is sick....
I'm glad she's keeping her food down. I remember how reluctant she was to eat, and the need to hand feed her sometimes. I hope you find a food that works well!

Re: We think our Puppy is sick....
I called the vet this afternoon.
Daisy ate up her bowls of food this morning and at lunch with the new dog food and she's staying regular and she's not having any bouts of sickness.
We moved her crate towards the center of the kitchen away from the walls where the baseboard heat.
Knock on wood, no accidents.
And Friday she goes into the vet for blood work up.

Re: We think our Puppy is sick....
omg i'm glad to hear she is OK.
i only just saw this post now.
god, we had the same exact thing w/ char when she was just about five months old!
we FREAKED and took her to an animal emergency clinic (24 hour place) since it was at like 11pm.
$350 later... it was a virus!
they basically told us to do the same advice you were given-- with the rice-- and that it was like when people get a tummy virus. they did give her anti vomit stuff and took x-rays to make sure nothing was in her tummy that shouldn't have been.
it was an expensive night! but we were SO worried b/c she was so young.
the crate must be bad luck- lol!
