Wearing a girdle/support after birth? Yes or No? A little long, sorry!
I have 2 conflicting pieces of information and would like to have you ladies help me! I am going to RP on Parenting, but know there are many ladies here that are already Mommas too, or soon-to-be Mommas that are very knowledgeable!
I have 1 source saying that when I get home from delivery that I should wear a long girdle (the one with shorts) and then a thing around my stomach over that, along with a sports bra and a thing over that, for quite some time after birth to "suck it all back in and keep it there".
Somebody else just told me yesterday that the bra thing is good up until the milk stops coming in, which helps with engorgement (I completely understand and agree) BUT she says that girdle thing is ALL wrong and that her Dr. told her that's the WORST thing you can do!!!! She said that the Dr. said that it holds you in and prevents your muscles from naturally contracting and then you will have a pooch.
Which piece of info. is right? This is so confusing!!!! TIA!

I tried using one last time, but it was raelly uncomfortable. my belly went flat on its own once I started working out, I was back in a bikini and had no pooch. but now summer is right around the corner, I'm debating on using one of these to hurry the process along. Plus I don't think I'll be able to get to the gym as often this time with 2 kids

I will be using one, actually I will be buying it when I hit 8 months just in case. All of my cousins in Italy used them and I think it helps!

Tilde, can you tell me what kind you are getting. I definetly want to use one, just not sure which ones are good to use. TIA

I'm going to get something to help bring my hips back in.
Supposedly the pregnancy hormone loosens your joints and that's what makes your hips spread. I noticed after having my DDs I've had worse and worse hip pain. The physical therapist at my job suggested wearing a sacroiliac belt after birth to help realign my hips (because they'll still be loose). I
'm not worried about a pooch- my stomach did go back to nearly flat once the weight came off.
Unless you are looking to "dry up" your milk supply, I do NOT recommend wearing a tight bra- you're just begging for supply issues and clogged ducts.

My Dr said it was fine to wear. I bought the belly bandit. I didn't end up wearing it because I had a csection and the skin on my entire belly was so sore that I couldn't stand anything (even my clothes) touching it. It felt like it was severely sunburned. By the time it subsided, the belly bandit was way too big.
I still have some baby weight to lose, so my stomach is still flabby, but I don't have "the pooch."

For home, I am going to go old school and get something like this: JCPenney's
Look for things that say "EXTRA FIRM"
After that, I am going to switch to something like this:
Belly Bandit
And look what I just found for now! I think i am going to buy it:
Maternity Girdle

Does the hospital have something they can give you? I thought I heard that somewhere.

I heard they give you something if you have a C-section. I'm sure it's not store-quality though.

So I guess they do help! I bought one that goes above my belly button and has the bottom that are like shorts *up to your knees*. I don't know how the heck it's going to be comfy though!

I have only heard good things about wearing some sort of compression after you give birth, even for a C-section.
I was gonna order the belly bandit but ended up getting this b/c it had really good reviews...they also have this one which looks good and keeps your boobs out of the mix. I got mine from ebay for much less and will look into the belly bandit eventually again, this was just a starter piece.
Since the summer is so close to my due date, I really wanted to make sure I am doing everything possible to get myself somewhat back to normal asap.
