website with town info?
Does anyone know of a website that I can research town info on? We are in the very early stages of looking for a home so I'd like to be able to type in a name of a town and have info such as school district, businesses, taxes etc. Does this even exist lol?

You can try doing some searches on the city-data forums. I found this very helpful. Real Estate sites like zillow and trulia will give you basic school and tax info.

I also think Newsday might have something.
Some people on here too can be tremendously helpful, but make sure they are actually living in or from the town first.
All too often people have way too much to say, when they are not a resident.
Teachers in school districts are also good resources, as well.

Re: website with town info?
My Facebook Page, "Christine Braun Real Estate" has a tab on "Community Info," and you can search by state and town to get a lot of information on community demographics, weather, crime, cost of living, school information, nearby establishments.
I am linking to an example I pulled up on my page, using "Bellmore" as the search town. Hopefully the link works and you can see the type of info provided and if it's what you are looking for.
I decided to invest in this feature on my page because it is pretty much one-stop shopping for buyers.
While you are on my page, don't forget to "Like" it to get real estate info and updates, as well as home decorating and organization ideas, recipes, info on local events and more!
Also, if you have any questions about the buying process or certain areas, let me know! Even if you are in the early stages, I am happy to answer any questions or consult with you... no pressure!

ETA - The link just takes you to the search page, but type in any town and try it out!

Re: website with town info?
To piggyback off what Christine said, I think if you have a good RE agent, they will also be helpful and forthcoming about towns and some of the issues.
The woman we used, was also from our area so that was extremely helpful too.
She would tell us, I have a couple of houses for you to look at but they fall into the X school district and not everyone is comfortable with that---these are some of the issues you may run into if you buy there, A, B & C......
Even in more "desirable" locations we looked in, she would point out issues we could run into with that particular house and neighborhood.
