Wedding question: how much time for hair?

SIL just sent a very detailed schedule for the wedding. She gave me the last hair appointment so I didn't have to be away from DS for too long. We're going to a local salon to get it done. She has the BMs down for 30 minute appointments. Once I'm finished, all of the BMs are being driven over to FIL's house for lunch and pictures.

Does 30 minutes seem like enough time for an updo? I have a feeling her whole shcedule is going to be thrown off and we're going to be rushing around in the afternoon.

depends on if the salon is washing the hair. for my wedding it was about 30 to 45 minutes per person at a salon.

I know for my hair (I have a ton of thick hair) 30 minutes would only be enough time if I arrived with it washed and blow dried already.

Even for my wedding, I went the night before to my regular salon to have it washed, set in rollers, and blow dried. The next morning a stylist came to my house to curl and style my hair.

My mom has thin, straight hair (total opposite of me) and she washed and dried her hair the morning of my wedding and the stylist did her updo in a 1/2 hour or maybe less.

A lot of times for updo's they prefer that your hair is not freshly washed so perhaps they're just taking into account the time to do the actual updo, not a wash and blowdry beforehand.

Even so, i agree that 30 min seems a little short. I have medium long hair and i'd say it takes a good 45 minutes from start to finish.

Salons usually want your hair washed and already dried. I'd say about 45 mins is good.

30 mins would make me nervous, to be honest. I would say an hour is a better block of time so you're not rushed! Also it depends on your type of hair, length, and what you are getting done to it.

For my wedding I got my hair curly and it took about an hour and a half.

I am a hairdresser who does alot of wedding hair. You should always have your hair washed and dryed when going for an updo, but even still 30 minutes is cutting it close depending on the amount of hair you have. I usually schedule 45 minutes to an hour and sometimes longer. I always ask the bride if there are any girls with alot of hair that will need extra time and such. I always have the girls show up at the same time for the sake of timing. That way if one girl takes 20 minutes you can start the next and if they take longer you are not wasting time.

30 min is cutting it close i think. For my wedding i think it took about 45 minutes for each person and for myself I know it was over an hour Even my 3 flowergirls took longer then 30 min. Maybe she can call the salon to ask about time frames.

Re: Wedding question: how much time for hair?

Did your SIL or the salon give her the 30 minute timeframe?

I would ask your SIL -- if she did it, she should call the salon and ask how long to allocate for each person's style.

If the salon said "30 minutes" -- then it's 30 minutes -- they're pros, and they know how long it takes to do hair, and I would trust that.

I know a wedding hair stylist that takes exactly 30 minutes - 10 minutes to set the hair (curlers) and 20 minutes to style...and sometimes she's faster!

Re: Wedding question: how much time for hair?

For my hair ( I have very thick and unruly hair), 30 minutes would not be enough time. It all depends on the type of hair you have, how long it is and what you want done.
