Wedding Related....please tell me about your shower!
Hi, I know this isn't LIW, but I know a lot of people on here have great ideas...
my sister's bridal shower is coming.
I was wondering if any of you had anything at your bridal shower that was unique, special or went over well...I want to make it a great day for her, but I am not very creative. Thank you!

my BMs sent out recipe cards with the invites and asked the guests to write down a favorite recipe they thought I'd like to make for my family. At the shower they put it all together and gave me a great recipe book/binder.
They also circulated a piece of paper at the shower asking for guests' names, birthdates, anniversary dates, etc. That was great because DH didn't know ANY of his aunts/cousins bdays or anniversaries!

Not sure how unique this is but my bridesmaids did a honeymoon themed wishing well which was I absolutely loved! We got things like underwater cameras, sun tan lotion, towels, mr. and mrs. flip flops etc. Very cute!

my shower was great - what made it really special for me is that my mom and BP really went all out to try and decorate using my wedding theme and colors (my theme was grapes/wine and my colors were purple and green).
we also didn't play a ton of games because they knew i would hate that - but honestly, if you don't play a lot of games, the guests will be bored, so try to think of some fun ones (i am so bad at that  )

For my sils shower, her maid of honor had sent out a letter to certain people for them to write a letter or poem and send pictures that were special to her, and she made a book out of all them. I thought that was a really cute .

My mom and MOH sent this out--- they also bought my thank you cards for me and had everyone put their address on an envelope so it was one less thing I had to do-- plus I was given an address book w/ everyone's name and address to get us started....
My MOH did a 'top 10 list' for us... and also had a quiz for the guests to see how well they know us--- there were 20 or 25 questions and whoever got the answer right first got to pick a prize from the wicker laundry basket- my mom bought stepping stones, candles, soaps, all sorts of stuff from mace's closeout city and the dollar store--- it was a lot of fun and it made it interactive. 
They also did a wishing well and we got lots of great stuff...

We just had my sister's shower this past weekend. On the cake we superimposed a pic of her when she was a flower girl (age 6) and wrote "Future Mrs. XXX". It was really cute. Also-instead of the bow hat we made a bow bikini-that was really funny. Instead of the traditional games that some like, and some don't, we just set a timer while she was opening her gifts...it went off every 5 minutes and whomever's gift she was opening at the time got a lil prize.
OH...and we passed around an address book for everyone to fill out-that is super useful!

something we are doing for my SIL's shower is having little gourmet cookies handed out with the favors but you can just give them out as favors since they are so nice. what happened was my MIL had bought a favor (olive oil bottles) and it is a whole italian/wine theme so when i was in northport village recently i came across a place called "quintessential cookies" or something like that - a little shop with AMAZING cookies - hands down, the best cookies i have ever had!!!! they have chocolate chip, snickerdoodle, ginger snap, peanut butter - they were out of this world! so, they designed a little grape vine cookie - so each cookie has a little grape vine on it and we'll tie it in w/ the olive oil - it's cute!
but when i saw all their designs and the store and tasted the cookies - i thought - i HAVE to have these at my SIL's shower - they are excellent. whether you are using them as favors or just taking a wide variety of flavors and making some platters for the tables for dessert - either way they are fantastic and your guests will be raving about the taste.

My Bridal Shower was at The Irish Coffee Pub. It was perfect, everything I couldn't ever asked for. My BM's (in perticular my little sis, aka MOH) did amazing. They were great with games, favors, centerpieces, etc. I truely had the best time.
My sis will be getting married 10/10/09 and I already have so many ideas for her shower. I really want to try and find a place near the water (her colors are blue & silver). They are doing a Yankee wedding, but she really wanted her wedding near the water (hence we're taking pics at the beach before her reception at East Winds). That being said, if I can do an outdoor shower at a rest. near the water it would be her dream

Me and DH love the beach so my sister and BM's gave me a luau style bridal shower. Instead of a traditional umbrella and wicker chair they bought me a big beach chair and a giant daisy beach umbrella and gave us a big cooler for a wishing well. They also had all homemade food and desserts and a chocolate fountain. And they had a friend make me an awesome beach themed cake.

My mom & sister created a Bridal Shower booklet for all games for each person to do while they were eating, they created a product poem, etc.

The address book and birthday dates are a really good idea!
For my BF, the bridal party did a personalized honeymoon tote with all items for her honeymoon and she did the same for me when I had my shower. Its always a big hit and I use mine all the time for the beach!
They also asked my DH and I questions prior to the shower about eachother and revealed the answers at the shower to see how well we knew eachother, pretty funny!

I was just at a shower where the MOH hired a a person from Lieb Cellars to come and teach everyone about the wines and then pair them w/ each course. It was interesting and fun!

My cousin wrapped my presents from her so that they looked like a 4 tier wedding cake. She strung pearls around it, had pretty ribbon and flowers, had a topper and everything. It was so pretty. I refused to open the gifts for a while because I didn't want to ruin it.

My mother did a "Ladies Luncheon/Tea Party" theme for my shower.
With the invites, she sent out very antique-looking recipe cards that people brought back with them to the shower.
Each table was victorian themed with little teacup sets and various other decorations.
My MOH's father actually MADE me a teapot wishingwell. I was so crushed when we had to dismantle it
The menu was all delicate finger foods made by my mom, MOH, godmother and a variety of other gals. Nothing was bought pre-made. This was a huge $$ saver for my mother but it was time consuming.

Same here! Actually, my whole shower was Hawaiian honeymoon themed - leis, decorations, etc, but I LOVED that my BMs requested that everyone bring a honeymoon-themed gift for the wishing well - great stuff - towels, beach bag, flip flops, suntan oils, tiki candles - LOVED IT!

I've been to showers where there were themes. There was a time of day shower where people had to bring gifts based on the time of day they would be used. For example, a toaster for the morning. Another good theme was buying gifts based on certain rooms of the house. For example, a dishware set for the kitchen.

my shower was so nice- it was at my aunt's house, maybe about 25 people there... nice and small.
my girls did a cute thing while i was opening gifts. They had gotten quotes from online about love/marriage ( "if you want to spend the rest of your life with someone, you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible", OR " always discuss important issues after dinner- husbands are very irritable when hungry")
the had one for each guest. Before i started opening presents, each guest got a quote/joke. when i opened that guests present, they had to read their quote outloud. it was just a realy cute way to keep people involved while i was opening gifts- everyone was interested in hearing what the next quote would be, and we were all cracking up at the funny ones.
We also did this when i was a BM in a friends wedding... and it went over huge there as well! good luck!!

I loved my shower. We had it in my aunt & uncles backyard. it was luau  and partly jack & jill (the men came about 2 hours into the shower and the party continued all night). it was so much fun!
