wee wee pad question?
My MIL's dog (that we are watching) seems to be really well trained about peeing on the wee wee pad and we thought he was good about pooping on the wee wee pad but out of the blue, he will just poop on the floor....what can I do to train him to consistantly poop on the wee wee pad ---just like he does with the peeing.
ETA---and what do I do when he does just poop on the floor? How do I reprimand him?

Re: wee wee pad question?
hmm it is hard to reprimand him if he is not caught in the act.
If you do catch him, slide a clean pad down under his bum & catch the poop. Eventually he will equate the pooping motion with a pad (does that make sense?)
Not to sound bad, but do you clean the pad & put down a fresh one as soon as it is used? I know for my indoor pups if they peed on it & then have to poo they will not go near a dirty pad. When DH & I come home from work sometimes the pad has been used & there is a little poo on the floor near the pad.
If the dog poos on the floor make sure to clean it with something like Nature's Miracle that will get the smell out of/off of the floor surface so the dog does not seek out that spot again.

If it happens again, I will slide the pad under him. I have come home from work and he has peed on the pad multiple times and has pooped on it after he has peed on it before. Are they not suppose to? ABout how many pads do you go through a day? It actually just happened. We were hanging out in the office and he peed on the pad. I rewarded him with praise and a treat. About 5 minutes goes by and I am typing away and I look over and he is in the position to poop on the floor 5 feet away from the pad. I yelled no and moved him to the pad and then I did not give him a treat because he half hit the pad and half missed (only made it because I moved him). What ekse should I have done after that? If he successfully pooped on the floor and I caught him but am not able to move the wee wee pad or him in time, what should I do? Thank you for the help!!!

Re: wee wee pad question?
If you do not catch him in the act one thing to do is to (and this is a little gross) pick up the poo & put it on the pad. bring him over to see & smell it on the pad.
ETA: About going on a dirty pad, sometimes the ammonia smell will deter them from going in the exact same spot if it is too strong.
