Weight - are you ready for this one? Repost from Parenting
I am REALLY bummed and embarassed about what has become my fav sensitive subject - - - weigh. I did not even want to post about it but can't help it and need to share. . i have gained 30 - yes 30lbs total at 22 weeks and want to HIDE. i'm mortified and ashamed!!! I saw a different doc in the group last Thursday and he said all is well but he was "concerned about my excessive weight gain" and not to gain anymore. I was not overweight pre-pg. i was a size 4, 10lbs over my ideal weight (post holidays/honeymoon etc.)conceived in Jan. I am 5'2 or 5'3.
Yes, i have a healthy appetite, eat my 3 meals some days only 2. I do indulge a bit but heck i thought we are allowed to indulge while pregnant - i waited a long time to finally start my family and am sooo happy. Its not like i'm living on fast food, donuts and ice cream i'm only eating cereal and fruit today so far because i'm so terrified of csection and ges. diabetes etc...

You need a big hug I left you some words of encouragment on your post on parenting..
Sweetie, screw your doc, I am mad for you!!
Please don't be upset, just remember you are growing a baby.
I gained 50+ lbs with DD, she wasn't a big baby when she was born (7lbs), I didn't have GD and my weight came right off.
I am sure you gained lots of water weight.
Lotsa hugs and don't give up your yummy dessert Please don't obbess about gaining, you'll lose it after baby is born, I just know you will

Re: Weight - are you ready for this one? Repost from Parenting
I gained 50+ both times. Although my first son was fairly big, I don't think it had anything to do with my weight gain - but just with genetics. There isn't a baby in my family (or really DH's) that is much under 8 lbs. I did have a c/s due to size mostly.
I was a little upset this time, I thought I could control it - but I just couldn't! I don't eat bad at all. i was happy to hear that my OB said - some women just gain more than others.
If you are really concerned with losing it, seriously think about BFing. I lost it all pretty quickly.
Also remember that a lot of women stop gaining much in the third trimester.

You even said you arent a junk food eater. Some people are prone to gain more than others. If you said you were sitting home eating donuts and bon-bons all day long, I could see that being a problem. Remember, you need to eat and stay healthy for the baby growing inside of you.

i gained 50lbs with my DD. I didnt eat excessivly, i ate when i was hungry. As long as you feel good and stay active then forget the weight gain. It will all come off. Im convinced there is nothing you can do about it.

Re: Weight - are you ready for this one? Repost from Parenting
from your lips to god's ears!!! thank you all. trust me, i iwlll do everything i can to lose weight post-baby. when i think about it now i'm getting angry at him but at the same time = i'm terrified of going back to him for a future visit and he may be delivering my baby!!!
he didn't even mention that i quit smoking!!! I eat real food and i do allow myself 1 treat a day some days its coolwhip with lite choc. syrup or peanut M&M's and sometimes no treats. it depends. My first trimester i would reach for jellybeans instead of a cigarette.
how much bigger am i going to get??

Re: Weight - are you ready for this one? Repost from Parenting
Hey don't sweat it. When I was pregnant with DS I gained about 30lbs when I was 22 weeks. My doctor didn't say anything to me. I was also a size 4 before I got pregnant. I gained a total of 65lbs. I don't regret it because 1. I enjoyed every single thing I ate and 2. I lost it all in 6 months.

Re: Weight - are you ready for this one? Repost from Parenting
DO NOT WORRY ABOUT YOUR WEIGHT...as long as you are eating well...My Doctor has my starting weight from my 8 week appoinment..I had alreay gained 10 pounds..I didnt tell them that though. How I gain that much weight in one month is beyond me but the minute I get pregnant BAM...I cant eat a thing yet I gain 10 lbs? Even now I have gained 13 pounds. Even that is beyond comprehension b/c I eat an 1800 calorie a day diet....so I know its baby related and not fat...
Aside from that...I gained 50 with my eldest daughter and 50 with the twins...and noone ever said a thing to me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Im 5'8" and Im usually a size 6...

One of my girlfriends has 3 kids - I think the LEAST amount of weight she gained was something like 53lbs and as much as 70+ with another. She had natural births for all and never had gestational diabetes or any complications due to her weight gain! Try not to worry so much!!

Re: Weight - are you ready for this one? Repost from Parenting
I know just how you feel except I started this pregnancy a little more than 10 lb. overweight You eat right, you don't sit around, you're growing a life inside you for heaven's sake! You are beautiful and your body will return but for now, it's growing your precious or so don't you worry. It's hot outside and that makes us retain water and swell. All I have to do is look at something salty and I gain weight.
Please hang in there, you're a beautiful Mommy-to-be and don't listen to your doc unless your BP is high, etc.

Re: Weight - are you ready for this one? Repost from Parenting
I can totally relate. I also began this pregnancy overweight (by more than 10 lbs.) and at first I was gaining slowly...then I had a month where I gained about 11 lbs. So far, at 30 weeks, I have gained about 35 pounds!
I was mortified at that number, but I spoke to several friends who have had babies, and they all told me the same thing - don't worry about it. Do the best you can to eat healthly for you and for the baby and when you want to indulge - go for it. Focus on losing weight after the baby. I have friends who only gained 20 pounds and those who gained 50+...and they all lost it after the baby.
Another thought too is that if you quit smoking, that tends to slow your metabolism anyway...When I quit a few years ago, I put 10 lbs on....
The important thing now is that you stay postive in habits and in mind set for your baby...don't let the doctor upset you.

Re: Weight - are you ready for this one? Repost from Parenting
I don't think you should be mortified or ashamed of your weight gain, and I don't think the doctor is trying to put you down at all...I think he/she is just concerned with your weigh/height and your pregnancy weight gain proportions, as such rapid weight gain may cause some unnecessary problems for you and for the baby. Just try to watch what you eat (you HAVE to eat and eat healthy), cut back on your sugar and salt intake and drink lots of water! In any event, Im sure all will work out!

Everyone is different, so first I would try to stop comparing yourself to everyone else. I have only gained 6lbs so far, but that's only bc I am a fat a** to begin with!!! I am sure if I started off as tiny as you I would be in the same boat.

Re: Weight - are you ready for this one? Repost from Parenting
My mom gained nearly 50 with me and 40 with my sister. I turned around and gained 28 with my first and 33 with my 2nd. My MIL gained 98 with DH! ()
Oddly, I was praised for gaining right in the middle of my rec. weight gain of 25-30 with my first, considered too small even though I was gaining easily a pound a week with my second. My mom was never told she gained too much or too little. DH's mom and the nurses were aiming for 100, when DH was born early, he "messed that up" for her.
Every dr. is different as well as every woman and her pregnancy. I actually anticipated gaining 40 pounds this time as I was hardly ever sick (of any kind) for the whole 9 months. I was shocked to only gain the 33!
As for the extra weight and risks, well, neither my mom or my MIL had GD with any of their kids...so it isn't always from "excessive" weight gain.

Re: Weight - are you ready for this one? Repost from Parenting
By the end of this pregnancy, I will have gained about 50 lbs above my 7 week weight (which was already about 10 lbs above my ideal weight). I have gained at EVERY SINGLE appt - never had one of those weeks where I didn't gain at all (including now that I go every week!). My doctor has never been concerned so I guess neither am I. He just said the more I gain, the harder it'll be for me to take it off (but he says that in passing, really not a big deal). I could probably eat a little better, but I try to eat relatively okay. I'm not gonna beat myself up over this ... and neither should you.

Re: Weight - are you ready for this one? Repost from Parenting
I wouldn't worry about it too much. As you said, you eat decent foods. You don't just lay around on the couch. I've heard many people gain close to 50 pounds or more during pregnancy, everyone is different, and I think it's hard to lump everyone into that 25-35 lb. category.
Some people also gain more in the first or second trimester, and less in the last.
Don't worry about losing weight now--you really shouldn't try to skimp on meals or nutrients now. It will come off later, and I'm sure you will be fine.
Incidentally, one woman I work with has GD and she has not gained much weight really--only 19 lbs. and she's due in early August. She ate good foods too, I just think this happens to some people. The only thing I have read that can put you at higher risk of GD is age, I've never seen weight mentioned, though maybe I've missed something.

Re: Weight - are you ready for this one? Repost from Parenting
PLEASE do NOT worry about this!!!! enjoy your pregnancy and don't think about the gain. as long as you are eating reasonably you will be FINE - the weight will come off!!
everyone gains different amounts, in different places, at different points in their pregnancies. for all you know, this could be the majority of your weight gain, and from now on you'll gain very little. you just can never tell.
let it go and ENJOY!

Re: Weight - are you ready for this one? Repost from Parenting
I am going to go against the grain here and say be careful with the weight gain. especially for your small frame. I am only saying this b/c I got gestational diabetes and h ad to take insulin 2x a day- thank god its normal now, but my dr. said and I read on it that the wieght is a big factor. however some may get it and some dont. Is there diabetes in your family? you also dont want to get high blood pressure either. you said you were eating cereal and fruit today- HUGE carb and weight gainers!!! try to eat 6 small meal a day. yes you can have carbs but watch when you have them and your portion too. at 26 weeks you will have your 1 hour test, start now to use the food you eat to help you reduce the weight and insulin production- diabetes or not. try to have y our fruit in the afternoon or mid afternoon. for breakfast try to eat protein or dairy ex- eggs/white/ yogurt, piece of cheese on egg.
if you are serious about losing weight the healthy way during y our pg go on a diabetic website and look at menus, there is also information about gestational diabetes online or if you need help let me know. I went through 2 months of it with diet/nutrition and all my info is from the diabetic center at winthrop where I had to go. good luck.
edited to say I gained 25lbs for my pregnancy and it came off poof by my 6 week pp visit and lost some too.

Re: Weight - are you ready for this one? Repost from Parenting
Just look at it this way...you started in a great place. I'm 5' 3" and was no size 4.
Just eat like you always did. It's true, just because your preggo, that does not mean you can eat everything in sight. Try to get back to your normal routine, but DON'T starve yourself. Baby needs nutrients. Try to eat fruits when you are hungry.
Don't beat yourself up. You caught it early and can start eating more healthy for the baby. Remember, baby wants fruits and veggies...and an occasional ice cream sundae.
I'm sure you still look fabulous!!
ETA They say thin girls gain more weight than overweight girls. So, that could explain it also.
