Weight Gain??

So, after really watching what I was eating and going to the gym more often than not, things have severely changed since tying the knot.

I was gradually putting some weight on during our honeymoon but then we had a house fire and was eating out every meal. I just haven't been able to stop.

Does anyone have any advice aside from wiring my mouth shut? I'm a teacher so I've got a really good schedule going for during the day. I'm also a dog trainer and walking around with clients has actually caused shortness of breath.

We're in a rental house now and will probably be there until August.

PS Chat Icon is just not about to happen when I am feeling so disgusting.

Re: Weight Gain??

Sorry to hear this, eating out is definitely a problem for me as well. I try to only eat 1/2 of what they serve me at restaurants and box up the other 1/2 for lunch the next day. The first few times was difficult, but now it's a routine and I have no problem not finishing all the food. I hope this helps a bit.
I was also talking to some other NWs and we are thinking about starting up a walking group. I will let you know and you are welcome to join us!!

Re: Weight Gain??

I gained 20 lbs this year after the wedding! Well 20 lbs if you count what I lost for the wedding and gained back. All from not exercising and eating crap. Now I'm fighting hard to lose it. I've lost 6.5 lbs since getting back on the wagon 34 days ago. And that's with HARD work. I wish I had never stopped working out. It was just the most stressful year. Now we're excited for our one year, and to start this year off right!

Re: Weight Gain??

I'm skinny & have been before & after getting married!! Easy? no!!
Box up half your meal in a restaurant BEFORE you even start eating the meal. Ask for a take-out carton @ the start so you don't accidently eat extra.
Do not eat more then 1 cup of rice or pasta a day. 1 cup is plenty, looks like a tennis ball. A serving of any meat is the size of your hand without fingers. Same thickness as your hand. If a restaurant brings more then this wrap it up.

Tell all restaurants no bread basket please. DO not drink anything with calories- excessive alcohol, soda or juice.

Eat a good breakfast-egg whites with veggies, turkey & egg. Something with lots of protein. Eat a very light dinner & if you must snack late choose fruits, vegetables or light popcorn.

Don't cut things out of your diet. You'll only go crazy. Just limit bad foods. If I eat a cheeseburger, I never get fries, drink diet soda & have a light salad for my other meal of the day.

You can do it & make DH watch what he eats with you. Supporting each other = fit husband & wife!!

Re: Weight Gain??

I haven't put on weight pounds wise since the wedding, but I got married right in the middle of all the holidays, so it was just non-stop food, cakes, cookies, drinks...then in our familes holiday season is followed by birthday season, so we had several more big food events to boot! Chat Icon It's really done a number on my tummy, and I definitely grew a pooch.

Over the past few weeks, I've been trying to exercise more and cut out the unnecessary carbs from my diet. I always ate toast for breakfast, a sandwich for lunch, sometimes bread or pasta with dinner...it was just too much. I've not switched to oatmeal for breakfast, I bring a salad (lettuce or bean) at least 3 days a week and a sandwich only two days...lots of fruit, veggies, I try to have eggs or chicken or some other protein, no snacks after dinner like ice cream or chips. I had a very carb heavy diet, and I didn't completely cut it out because that's not healthy, but I did moderate it, and it helps. Still have a while to go to get back to my fighting form, but the initial bloat has definitely gone down.

Re: Weight Gain??

I am the heaviest I have ever been in my entire life. I chalk half of it up to the fact that I will be thirty soon and my metabolism has totally changed and the other half I attribute to the fact that I sit all day long at my place of employment.

I am by no means what people would call overweight, but I am also not at all what I am used to looking like. I am also not even five feet tall, so when I gain anything, you really see it.

I keep saying that I am going to eat less and smarter, and move more, but it just never seems to happen Chat Icon

Re: Weight Gain??

i agree. WW is the only thing that has worked for me. I put on weight after the wedding. I'm trying to get it off now. The meetings is what helps me the most. But hang in there. The weight will come off.

WW has always worked in the past but I find it aggravating to keep tracking points and weight and measure things. The current thing I am doing right now is this...

I am on week #4 so far I have cut out all drinks other than water and no sweets/sugar. Monday starts no refined carbs...

Re: Weight Gain??

Thanks for sharing everyone.
I'm weeining off of some medications that cause weight gain, so maybe the fact that I'm no longer fighting a losing battle will help with my will power.

Despite the way I feel we are actually ttc. I know it would be easier if I were lighter but I'm not going to beat myself up over it.

What happened to the walking crew?
I'm in Islip/Islip Terrace. For the most part I'm available. I start summer school on Monday and Wednesday from 8:30-12:30.

I was thinking of joining CrossFit in Holbrook. Look up Spartan Fitness.
