weight gain first trimester
So at the Doctors yesterday, I saw that I gained 8 lbs!! AHHH I'm only 8 1/2 weeks. I dont know if it was because I ate beforehand. They didn't say anything about it...It was a new dr, but I gave them my starting weight.
Is that really bad? I think it's because if I don't eat, I feel sick...and carbs are what is making me feel the best and agreeing with my tummy. I know so mnay people lose or don't gain anything the 1st trimester and I sitll have a month to go.
Did this happened to anyone?
Any tips to stop gaining so much!!!?
Thanks.

Re: weight gain first trimester
With my pregnancy with DD, by the time i was 12 weeks, i had gained 12 pounds. I ended up gaining over 60 pounds with her. This pregnancy has been better, i have been better about what goes in my mouth. I am 11 weeks and have gained 4 pounds so far. As much i don't feel like having a salad, i make sure i have one at least 5 days a week. I ate badly with DD and don't want to make that mistake again.
ETA: My OB never said anything about my weight the entire time i was pregnant with DD, he always said my weight was fine although im pretty sure 60 pounds was not good. Just watch everything that goes in your mouth, food journals work for me this time around....then at the end of the day i can be happy with what i ate or horrified and make the next day better.

Re: weight gain first trimester
I like the idea of the food journal. I have been eating salad like 3-5 times a week. I eat fruit...yogurt...I just feel like I'm eating too much carbs, but in the morning and afternoon when I feel really sick, it makes me feel better (usually). I have been throwing up usually at least once a day too.
Definitely need to watch what I put in my mouth more. Think I will try the food journal. Thanks!

Re: weight gain first trimester
one a lot of people have MAJOR water retention in the first few weeks and that can be a lot. . also everyone is different. I honestly gained over 1/2 of all my weight in the first trimester - thought it would be insane all the way. . and it leveled off

Re: weight gain first trimester
The first time they weighed me at the OB's office, I was 9 weeks pg. It was after lunch and I was wearing my snow boots. The next morning, I woke up and weighed myself before breakfast. It was 9 POUNDS less. So I thought I had gained a whole lot of weight, but actually, compared to prepregnancy (on my home scale, taken at my regular time) I'd lost about 3 pounds. Maybe something similar happened with you?

Re: weight gain first trimester
I completely understand about the carb overload. I'm having a really hard time eating veggies and meats. It's like a food aversion. They gross me out.
What I have been doing, and what has been working for me (I'm at week 11 and have lost 2 lbs.) is constant eating believe it or not. I eat breakfast which is a bagel thin with PB or Laughing cow cheese and tomato. Then starting at 10, I have a snack every hour practically. Cheese sticks, yogurt, grapes, berries, fiber one bars, whatever. I find that if I eat like that, I never feel nauseas so I don't need carbs. Once I get that way, I have no choice but to eat carbs. The only bad thing probably is that I don't really eat a meal. I'll sit and eat dinner but it's minimal.
