Weight gain in infants
Is a 2 pound weight gain in a 2 week period excessive for a 9 week old? (This isnt my child)

Re: Weight gain in infants
I would say yes only because my ped told me 1-2 lbs every month is "normal"

Re: Weight gain in infants
I would tend to say yes but at the same time I think that it's important to keep in mind total weight gain and the personal situation. For example, if the child is in the lower percentile and then this happens it would seem fine, if the child has lost the previous weigh in that would seem fine...if the overall weight is fine I would be aware but not alarmed...sometime it might be a case of balancing out...kwim?
But if it's a constant thing then yes - I would think it's excessive and needs to be evaluated.

Re: Weight gain in infants
Hmm my ped told me that 1once a day weight gain was appropriate for an infant for I think he said for the first 3 months - I know he said the weight gain concern was different for a BF baby than for a formula fed baby.

Re: Weight gain in infants
DS has gained an average of 2oz per day (it is supposed to be 1oz per day).
But since DS in BF, Ped is not worried about it at all.

Re: Weight gain in infants
my DD gained 2 lbs in 2 weeks, when she was first born. My ped. told me to limit her intake (I was feeding her way too much). SHe is formula fed.

Re: Weight gain in infants
Lucas gained 2lbs in a month. He is 6 months and 20 or so lbs. His ped said he is fine. Growing nicely. Not excessive. He is breastfed.

My DD gained almost 5 lbs in the first 2 months. My ped wasn't worried all. She was also growing fast in height too.
