weight gain-X post
During my ob visit yesterday, I asked how much I should gain with a twin pregnancy. He looked at me and said well normally I'd say 30-40 lbs but you are on heavy side so try to only gain 20
I looked at his man dumbfounded. Now I know I'm no skinny minny but I also don't consider myself obese (I wore size 12 pre pregnancy) so 20 seemed really on the low side and I questioned him on it. I said I gained 26 with my son and I assumed I had to gain more with two? He said again, you are on heavy side you need to limit it. I understand I didnt start off on the thin side (I gained 15 lbs from IVF and another 5 with pregnancy so far) but I was really under the assumption you had to gain more with twins. I should of questioned him more but I was just taken back by his answer.
Anyone pregnant with twins told same/different?

Re: weight gain-X post
I dont know what to say. I gained 74 pounds with my boys and kept asking the dr. if that was ok, and they never said anything. A lot of it was water weight in the end. I know they were more concerned about my swelling than the weight gain

Re: weight gain-X post
Wow, 20 pounds doesn't seem like much - my babies were over 6 pounds each - plus the placentas and water weight - I gained 42 pounds - and went to 37 weeks with them - I didn't think 42 pounds was alot - my doctor never once said anything about my weight -

Re: weight gain-X post
I am currently 32 weeks and have gained 30 pounds so far, and I was overweight when I became pregnant. The doctors havent said anything to me about my weight gain either.

Like the pps said that doesn't seem like a lot to gain at all - especially since you were only a size 12 beforehand. I gained 40 lbs and had them at 36 weeks.

Re: weight gain-X post
i gained like 55-60 lbs and had 2 7 lb babies. My doctor never said anything and I was a size 12 when I got pregnant too. In fact in a 2 week period in the beginning of my pregnancy, I gained 11 lbs in 2 weeks and my doctor laughed at me!!!
But 20 lbs would be great if you can do that

20 lbs seems unrealistic. I would ignore the comment. As long as you & the babies are healthy that's all that matters.
Size 12 is no where near overweight.

Re: weight gain-X post
I think I've gained at least 20 so far and I'm only 22 weeks! I was not overweight pre-pregnancy, but regardless, I think 20 lbs is way on the low side for weight gain for anyone. I don't think I know anyone who gained less than 25 even with a single baby. A size 12 does NOT sound overweight to me!

Like Diane said the water weight ALONE towards the end...
I gained between 45 and 50 and was a size 10 when I got pg. To be honest, my docs never said a thing to me, and, bless their hearts, didn't weigh me in the last two weeks so I don't really know.
I do remember weighing myself a few days after I had them (DO NOT DO THIS.... I was insane...lol) when my belly area still looked VERY pregnant and I had already lost over 30 lbs. It's true, when you consider the weight of the babies, the placentas, fluid, etc... that's probably 30 lbs if you go to week 34 plus.
Just eat healthy, stay as active as your body will allow, and drink plenty of water and don't listen to weight comments.

Re: weight gain-X post
I gained 26 pounds while being pg, and that only came about the last trimester I believe, becuae I was so swollen. I was over weight beforehand.
My Dr mentioned something in the beginning that I should try to keep it in check, but didn't give me a hard and fast number. He did tell me to not eat for 3 though.
20 sounds on the low since since you gained 26 with your first child though.
Good Luck!

Re: weight gain-X post
I have read that weight gain for twins should average between 35 to 45 lbs so I would just ignore the docter... 20lbs does not sound realastic .. I started off as a size 10 myself and I am going on 30 weeks now and I have gained already 33 lbs.. probably more now. Need to see docter this thursday but I tend to gain like 2-3 lbls every two weeks. So i figure by the time I'm ready to give birth I will be around 45 plus possibly.. My docters never dwelled on my weight. I think I do more than they do.. They tell me that my weight gain is just fine perfect for twins. Good Luck and just do what makes you feel healthy and good for the babies..
